Hey Folks

Seems like a few of us (Pat, Jingy, Rich the Brit, Myself and more) have suffered some injuries lately so I thought it might good to have a generic threat for us to bitch, whine, ask for advice, give progress reports, or otherwise commiserate.

Non-lame people are welcome to contribute and if your number comes up, you can cross the line to owning the thread too.

My trip report on getting injured is at

http://www.yosemiteclimber.com/Zodiacthreelegs.html

I got my cast changed today and am aiming at getting out of non-weighbearing casts in 5 weeks and getting set up in a walking brace and working more on my own before January 1st when my insurance deductible resets. I turn back to dirty cinderella with one shoe and a pumpkin on that date.

Wishing all you gimpy MF'ers a speedly recovery and productive downtime

Peace

I went down for a scope of my right knee last Thursday. Turns out I had some torn cartilage, and some plica removed. Now I'm limping around the house, doing my exercises, bored to death. What this thread needs is some pics to inspire the injured to what's waiting out there once we heal.

I can't believe you did that route on such a screwed up leg. Good thing you didn't have to carry a pack down.

Hey Karl, if you can hold yer foot in that position maybe you ain't got a full blown, full thickness tear. Usually with worse case issues, you have foot drop and yer foot flops around useless like a limp weeney! Hope you only have a partial tear, if so when you get outa the cast, check the tendon for a lumpy area, usually at the tear site. Do some deep tissue work on it if you have it(scar tissue)to break it up. work on getting your gastroc back in good flexibility and then work the hell outa it with strengthening. Hope this heals up good for you. If you have any questions I can help with, feel free to email me direct. Here's to your quick healing. Hey I have some Tibetan oil you might be interested in for the soft tissue stuff.
Peace

Once you say non-lame people... that pretty much excludes me... LOL

Cheers

No complaints from me. I crashed and burned, therefore, I am..

Karl,

That is burly doing the wall with your achilles blown even part way!

My injury, not-too-bad tear of the MCL ligament on my knee has healed well, did not climb for 5 weeks then eased into it climbing by following Mark Hudon up Imaginary Voyage at Donner, helping him out on his circuit leading up to the NIAD!

Its feeling good, I have been roller skiing a lot, skating and hill bounding ready for the snow to come and the racing to start!

Thanks to all of you back in early Sept. who gave advice and support!

Callie has a record of posting photos of her toes here, not all pretty.

I developed back trouble two weeks ago, for unknown reasons probably having to do with getting older. (I swim a lot, hike, go to a climbing gym, and do some stretching, so not for lack of exercise.) Over about a day, my lower back became very stiff and sore, to the point where for five or six days I could barely walk (hobble). I got anti-inflammatories and mild painkillers, and some physiotherapy, including (a first) some acupuncture - although I have doubts about such alternative therapies. Anyway, after a week struggling along, it just gradually got better, again for no reason.

long delay getting imaging on my back,
head space is good, lucky - good insurance,
no demands, but yeah, tired of the thing bugging
me and psyched to tackle it in full.

the delay? house hunting.
found a beauty, seems made for
me, very happy, very lucky.

good luck and best wishes to
all the other injured here, on

the injured person's thread :-)

thanks Karl.

Karl, believe Ron's right. Dan had full tears of his Achilles on two separate occasions. They have a special "test" to see how bad you are.

Ron is it put your heel on the floor and see if you can raise your foot. If it dangles you have a 100% torn Achilles ?

Missing you and Kelly .... gotta get together Dude. Thanks for lynnies healing time at John's Mary Lake Memorial. Still processing the whole loss of one incredible Dude. Glad I had so many conversations with John on email. JB was one incredible bright, gifted and caring Dude. Know he had another side, but honestly ..... we all do. Peace, lynnie

And I've been nice not to post any recent photos of said hooves. :)

I will relate this true story from El Potrero Chico this past Feb. A young boy - about 8 years old - approaches me and asks in obvious horror "what happened to your foot!?!?!?"

I look at my flip-flop clad foot and notice it's a bit red from hiking/climbing and tell him just that.

He responds by vigorously shaking his head in true horror and states empahtically, "NO....THAT!!" as he points at, but manages to avoid touching the bunion.

I then realize that I've horrified a child with the mere sight of my foot. I recognize the emotional scaring I've caused and tell him it's a bunion and it happens to *some* people due to the way they walk.

His eyes are huge with fear. (I see nightmares in his future).

So I ask to see his feet and assure him that his feet look good. That he won't have the same problem and his feet will never look like mine.

I knew then I had to cover my feet in public. Poor little guy.

There could also be a Whinge Thread, for people with more or less functional arms & legs who nevertheless whinge as they start the approach, about how they really are injured.

I'd join that thread in a minute!

Poor Crimpie!! You've had your share of beat feets!

Ya'll might invite Pat over here too. We've been talking about his knee pain on the "Disintegrating rock" thread.

"Hey Karl, if you can hold yer foot in that position maybe you ain't got a full blown, full thickness tear."

Here's the thing. I had surgery last Tuesday. The doc told me both side of the tear had begun healing but they weren't connected! His way of complaining with a smile that the surgery took longer than they expected. I definitely had a full rupture.

Got recast today and they'll take the stitches out in 10 days. No weight bearing for 5 more weeks!

I feel like I'll heel up fine by Spring for climbing again. I heal fast.

;-)
