Trip Report
Son of Flip Flop goes Backpacking in Yosemite
Wednesday June 22, 2016 11:50pm
June 4

My son just turned Seven in May.
On the first Saturday of his vacation we started on our excursion.
Not just a visit to a cherished place, our Yosemite, but also a move for him from Monterey to Reno via North Lake Tahoe. This is how it happened.
You put the kid in the raft, pick up a couple of hitchikers in Fish Camp and go float the Merced River from Stoneman Bridge to El Capitan Meadow. Stop at the beaches and meet climbers and shoot water guns and roll the Gypsy Caravan in for nigh on a week in the new improved Half Dome Village Plein Air Auto Village sans hassle at all even though the POTUS was rolling in. Noawhaimssayin?
Back to the story. After a few pictures.

I wasn't about to rob the Hitchikers of their own adventures. They got lost. We beat them to the top of the falls and to camp at Little Yosemite Valley. If you're not young and strong then you get my "Tortoise and the Hare" hiking instruction.

As you see,
as much as some of us,
we, go all wobbly,
When only the pity-party comes through.
&
that so little actual good suffering gets to be shared,

we do share in your joy!

Kids swallow up and retain the good times,
time layers the memories, covers them in gold leaf.

So leaving Golden dreams of soon to be's

and what's next ?

With a spark & flame the fun can continue.....
just some Whipped sugar - marshmallows -
the remains of gorp,,
make som-orez !

It is all tiddly-winks, unicorns and rainbows,
the speed at which kids go through this innocent 'little humane' stage !
Cherish it! I see that you don't need to be told....

A fantastic awesome Daddy-o , and it is a reassuring feeling that you are instilling the love for what is to SOME of us the true ONE Religion. !

Excellent, Flip-Flop. I have no doubt that my very early exposure to camping and hiking in the Valley set my love of the mountains for life. My first night camping in Yosemite happened when I was about 14 months old, and we went camping every year since. I first went up the Mist Trail when I was three, riding my uncle's back for part of the way. We took our daughters up starting about that same age, and they love the mountains, too.

I hope you and your son enjoy many decades of mountain happiness together.

Back in Tahoe after a trip to Tuolumne Meadows. Our second session started with some rafting and river shenanigans on the Truckee River. Our close friends live on the river and have the sweetest little swimming hole.

The R2 team.

Thanks y'all.
Nice picture Scott. Yeah, I'm savoring every minute. The last trip was too fun to get the camera out. I'll get around to the stories when the pictures roll in.

The bike was at the Truckee Maker's fair. There is a new Maker's Space opening soon called the Roundhouse. T town has a lot of creative bike people. One local has won the Arcata Kinetic Sculpture Race a few times.

Bonus TR:
Yesterday was a double-up at Donner Summit. First MJ and I climbed Black September and The Labyrinth ( a very deep chimney). Later we took a couple of women travelers on a three hour sunset tour of Donner Peak. Dee-light full.

Inquiring children chased this little dude off a big boulder in Tuolumne, through a pond and over to the tree. (Sorry) Can anyone identify it?
