Kris, eight people this year involved in avys on the mountain, you should be on Winter Lions Head as summer is prone to avy. Can't tell which from your trail sign pics.

Be sure to take googles, they make a huge difference maintaining a heading when the wind is ripping, and keep the compass warm, I've had to navigate the Alpine Gardens after dark in whiteout conditions, and the map and compass were key.

Good luck next try!

I was actually on the Lions Head summer trail because they hadn't opened up the Lions Head winter trail yet...I think they said there wasn't enough snow.

True: If you're too cold to put on crampons its too cold to be out. I had enough clothe to keep me warm...I really can't say why when I stopped I didn't put on my down jacket straight away. I had been walking in my base layer because I wasn't really cold when I was moving...maybe I was colder than I realize?

It was difficult to think with all the noise from the wind. I think that's why I wanted to do this, to get used to functioning in adverse conditions.
