Trip Report
Northern Bourbons (MT Bouldering TR)
Monday September 29, 2008 7:00pm
Two weeks ago the dedicated Batholith explorers and myself uncovered a rather large stash of boulders. It was difficult to get a grip on the area, as the rock didn't seem to really peter out. The zone was much bigger than expected, and we settled for just scratching the surface. We stayed on what we believed to be the 'western side of the zone'...turns out that's not exactly true...

This past weekend, AWhit and Zana decided to return and camp out in the area, spending some full days climbing and exploring.

I joined them on Sunday, calling Andrew that morning I sensed the enthusiasm in his voice, "North of where we're camped at, slightly northwest of where we were climbing last week...we took a walk up in there. It's packed with nice boulders, a great klettergarten..." (indeed, Tarbuster's term has been now adopted)

I cruised out solo(save for johnny law giving me an escort), and wandered up into the woods. Indeed there was another LARGE grouping just minutes away from where we were last week, and minutes from the Bourbons, which already hosts 100+ problems.

Once again I had a problem that I was okay with: way too many boulders to scope in a day to feel oriented. I decided to be alright with just wandering, as the rock just kept going in most directions. I wished I took more pictures, but this area is a keeper. Expect to see more...

A great traverse with a crimpy/balancey ending...

Andrew rounds out the day with some '5.10 fingers and hands'

We packed up and headed down toward the camp/cars...throughout the day, we did a bit of a backwards C...on the way down, we did the more direct path back down, finding many more on the way out. Overall, it's on...way to much rock, and just a handful of people going out to discover it's offerings...Andrew, Hutch and Zana all agree this could be the most prolific zone...yet anyways...

Last week(and some fresh Mojede pics too)
http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.html?topic_id=681795

and after getting off the phone with Fruh, it sounds like plans for a mid-week session is already in the works...

Hope you got out and enjoyed this past week...

Cheers from the backwaters,

Tom

You sure you didn't tip that saucer over a bit on purpose?

Don't yard too hard on that baby.

Very nice pics and excellent bouldering report. Wish I were up that way. Also great to see an actual climbing report rather than the plethora of political blather that seems to be taking up a lot of space on the topo lately. There are plenty of places for that kind of discourse on the web. This really is a climbing forum.

Thanks for the great TR
