Camping in the White Mountains
by Sean Mahoney

Every October I take a family trip to New Hampshire.
My brother Kevin, my dad, and Poppy lead us up a steep cliff.
It is hard. At night we build a campfire and roast marshmallows.
We sleep in our sleeping bags to rest up for another day of climbing.
I can't wait for my next trip back to the mountains with my family.

Cool!!! That's the best thing a dad or anyone can do for a kid, is to take them climbing.
Way to go.
My dad (not a climber) had a climbing friend take me out when I was young and then got me some gear to give me a cool hobby during my teen years. Thanks Dad.

My Dad on the Right and his friend Tim who took me climbing in the center around 1982.

This TR made my day. I cannot wait to take my little boy out. He's 4, or will be this week. Gotta get him on the right path before Momma convinces him that he is afraid of heights.

Awesome trip report. It's always such a good thing to see another generation of climbers being brought up right.
I can not wait to get my son up something in Yosemite. He is now 3 and a half and has only been bouldering with me so far. But at this age, all he wants to do is climb things. I love it. I am goign to give him another year out in the boulder fields so I can feel more comfortable with him roping up on something higher than 15 feet...lol

About climbing w/your Dad.... How about with your Mom?

Once a year, my son Alex (Honnold) and I go climb something memorable. First was Half Dome (Snake Dike), which I thought was THE climb of my lifetime. The following year (last year), we did Cathedral Peak (Tuolomne), which I thought was THE climb of my lifetime!

That brings us to this coming summer. Stay tuned....for the next climb of my lifetime, from the only mother/son climbing team we know of. :-)
