Trip Report
Happy St. Patty's From The Secret Spot
Monday March 17, 2014 3:56pm
I have never trusted Leprechauns. With their abnormally short legs and sneaky lookin grins.....the oversized buckles and green top hats....they just bug me. But in the hills beyond Fresno there is a tale that tells of hidden teasure. A land of green and granite that holds a pot of gold for the boulderer with a sense of adventure.

This Saturday Macronut and I sought to plunder some goods in a new area ne'er visited by human climbers. A neverland of moss, wildflowers and pixies. A boulder garden miles deep, a land of magic sprinkled with granite treats for the wanting hardman.

We left home cloaked in the inky black of dawn, and were soon passing into the realm of the leprechaun, seeking his hoard of fresh FAs.

Careful not to wake the Sprites that guard the Western bordrer, we quietly tiptoed across meadows green in this springtime fairytale terrain.
In a lickety snap we were hot on the trail of the man in a little green vest. I swore I saw a bony old finger becon us eastward over a knoll, so we ran like schoolgirls chasing a rainbow over a small rise.
What we found did not disappoint.

We charged ahead, following little golden pebbles hinting of bigger things to come. Not content to settle for breadcrumbs; we were looking for the kings feast.

We pressed eastward, our burning lungs powering us over hill and vale. Ahead I swore I saw a flash of a little green tuxedo dip under a gnarled oak....and thusly we increased our gait.
Macronut could wait no more, so he floated problems in his approach shoes along the way.

As the golden tendrils of sunrise washed us in morning light Macronut and I find ourselves topping out new terrain, new problems and new formations by the handfull. We have found the end of the rainbow. This is our pot of gold. And we will not share.

Well, you can only stuff your pockets with so much treasure so we turned north and headed to the top of the vale to seek one last prize.

Ok, I'm gonna get real with you Supertopo. We didn't find any Leprechauns. We found no gold, no treasure, no magic shamrock. But we did find a sweet thin face problem that was more precious than all those things combined. And Macronut straight crushed it. After three falls. Perhaps due to his general weakness or the fact that it was a blank wall with crumbling V7 micro holds covered in leprechaun droppings.

With the sendage complete an a new rad FA in the bag we headed home, to kids basketball games and T-ball practice. We left the new secret spot unnammed, the problem unrated. Some things are better left off the map. So happy St. Patrick's Day Supertopo. Hope you enjoyed this little advenure in The Secret Forest. Where magic still lives and fairytales come true.

May the sun shine on your face today and may the wind be always at your back.

Micronut out.

Couldn't have been said better. It's the story told by the pictures... Great TR!

And seeing the last picture: Leprechauns are ugly...

Stats on the o-dub boulder? Looks cool.
Since this Patty's Day is my 50th birthday, maybe the leprechauns will give up some of their secrets...

Micro, you're about the only thing left worth reading on SuperTopo these days. Still waiting to hear the gory details of the last Yos bigwall attempt. Hope the knee is on the mend too.

Will,

Thanks man. Its encouraging to know you dig my stuff. Supertopo sure does feel kinda bleak these days for some reason. Just trying to share some stoke.

About the Lurking Fear Left Meniscus Gone Bad TR.....it would be soooo much work to tell that story and do it justice here. I'm just not sure I want to invest the time for this current crowd. Kinda sad, but I'm losing my TR mojo with the state of The Taco. We'll see....

And thanks for asking about the knee. Its mending. But slowly. Its the first time I've been truly injured in my life and its very hard. This was my first time on rock of any kind since November! Its a real drag. But I have big alpine plans for this summer.
Stay tuned!

Great report. The essence of everything is in that green mossy landing spot. I feel the spirit of Dingus in this wonderful telling. Thanks

I was testing children in my Dublin Sunday school class to see if they understood the concept of getting to heaven.
'I asked them, ' If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale and gave all my money to the church, would that get me into heaven?'
'NO!' the children answered.
'If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the garden, and kept everything tidy, would that get me into heaven?'
Again, the answer was 'NO!'
'If I gave sweets to all the children, and loved my husband, would that get me into heaven?'
Again, they all answered 'NO!'
I was just bursting with pride for them. I continued, 'Then how can I get into heaven?'
A little boy shouted out: "YOU GOTTA BE FOOKN' DEAD!"
It's a curious race, the Irish. Brings a tear to the eye, doesn't it?

Bump for climbing and stoke!

If you text me where you went I'll text you where I found this and bunch of equally sized and equally fun boulders today. Some good rock, some back rock, some cracks, some overhanging face. Lots o' fun!

Ok Limy Crustacean, I'll show you mine if you show me yours. Does this help?
its near here. But not here. Its by this but not this. Its neither West nor east of this, but perhaps a bit Southnorth of it. By about a click or four.

Ah, I think I follow.

This place has a numerical east/west named neighbor on the same hill. If the north/south version of the naming plan was used here they would be called the 144 boulders.
