Trip Report
Cold and scared in the Needles (Halloween TR)
Thursday November 19, 2009 3:53pm
Went to the Needles for a chilly way to spend Halloween - full moon and the spooky naming theme for all the needles completed the experience. We checked out Dome Rock on Friday evening with a couple of hours of daylight left, did the Beckey route on Warlock on Saturday in the pleasant sun and froze ourselves off on Thin Ice on Sunday... good times (although it really seemed more appropriate if we had our ice tools in hand on Thin Ice, with the given temperature...)

Read the full trip report. Enjoy!

great photos! I think The Needles certainly is one of the best climbing areas in CA. Good on ya for getting out there late in the season. Good to know that the route finding of the Beckey Route is tricky, as I've wanted to climb that route for some time...

Oh, this is not good at all. It makes me want to get back to the Needles, but if I go back I'll get cold and scared again. What a dilemma.

Thanks for the TR

Peter,

You did three amazing routes in a weekend! GREAT WORK!
I've climbed thin ice on the same date and it was FREAKIN' COLD...so cold i couldn't feel my finger bleeding when it slipped out of the crack and hung on an edge in the crack!

Looks like you approached the South Face of Warlock from the other side...uphill the whole way!!!

Next time you return try a link up of "white punks" on voodoo and "imaginary voyage" on the warlock!

White Punks is awesome for sure, haven't done Imaginary Voyage yet - sounds like a great link-up idea, will put it on the list. Thanks! Any other longer route or link-up recommendations aside from the most obvious Witch/Sorcerer area?
