We recently moved to Redding and my son, Caleb, and I wanted to start exploring our new local mountains. Cliff Lake is a short 2 mile hike on a "very rough" 4 wheel drive road. Glad we left our Subaru behind.

This was an old camp stove with cast iron griddle. Made a nice table. There were some bad fires this summer so felt like it was too dry to fire the thing up.

The next morning we hiked around the lake and started our climb up the unnamed peak.

I think the ridge that I pan across is part of the PCT.

We were able to find a well marked trail to descend.

Excellent TR . I am at that point in life where it looks like having kids will be in my future . I am hesitant about this , all the work it entails , scaling back your own interests , sacrificing for others etc.

But the thought of having a climbing trip like this with a son seems so cool , and makes having a kid or two that much more appealing ...
