A weekend trip to Los Angeles last summer...
we wanted to try some new stuff, and some crags off the beaten path.
We hit:
DAY 1= Painted Cave, Pt. Mugu (pit stop), Echo Cliffs, Tick Rock.
DAY 2= Purple Stones, Stoney Point, Figueroa Mountain (above Los Olivos).
It was a hot Memorial Weekend, but we made the most of it.
Some notes:
Painted Cave - convenient for us, on our way, and a local favorite.
Pt. Mugu - Hmmm... you'll do it sooner or later. It took me 25 years...
Echo - really fun, but best on an overcast day, or when temps are in the 70s. It was in the 90s. The Grotto came in handy. Don't miss "Casey at the Bat" if you're a 5.10 leader.
Tick Rock - fun, tricky, convenient. Tons of shade. No approach. "Holy Crap" isn't 5.9. SANDBAG! but the name says it all. And "Guiness" is WAY better than we expected.
Pt. Dume... go early or forget it! Parking nightmare!
Purple Stones - this place is magical for sure... Travel through the time tunnel and see for yourself!
Stoney Point - My nephew had never been. Had to take him. Even if it was in the 90s. He loved it. History lives!
Figueroa Mtn. - off the beaten path and wonderful. Great end to a fun trip.
Hope you enjoyed the pics!
