So this showed up in my front yard the other day. A nice, warm, sunny Fresno day.
And over a thick, black, fresh roasted hand dripped pour over of Hood River Coffee Co.'s finest he tell me that he's never seen Kings Canyon.
So my wife tells me "skip church and take Mark to see the big trees and Roads End." I love my wife.
Within an hour Limpingcrab sends me beta on a five pitch rarely climbed route in Cedar Grove that goes at 5.7, 5.8, 5.9, 5.10, .10b
Little did we know that six hours later we'd be doing this.
So off we go in my shiny new truck, pullin 11.6mpg. Will that be enough to get us to roads end and back? I dont care. I love my new truck.
The drive is fantastic, tales of Mark's recent exploits in The Black, Zion and The Valley make the miles fly by and in an hour we pull over to marvel at some of the biggest living things on the planet.
"Get back in the truck Hudon, we can't stroll around looking at the pretty trees all day."
We continue east, clouds boiling on the horizon, and are soon staring down into the great Canyon of the Kings.
Descending the narrow, winding road into the guts of the canyon is so very different than other parks in the Sierra Nevada. Yucca plants growing at Dr. Suessian angles speckle the striated ancient walls.
Massive fins of granite, marble, gneiss and schist thrust at strange angles from the earth.
Oh man.........sorry readers.....I gotta go, I'm typing this on my iphone in line at Magic Mountain with my kids and we're up next. Gotta run. Stay tuned!
