Madison,
The link was so excellent I forgive your laziness. I must admit that your picture of Pitch 5 from below had a resemblance to the Harding Slot, and reading your report and gazing at the pictures almost makes me want to get in shape so I can do the climb.
Almost.
Thanks much.

Rarely get on Supertopo anymore. Lots of bickering and irrelevant BS. Happened to log in today for the first time in a while and found this gem. Immediately booked a flight to head out to Zion this spring and climb Monkeyfinger - its been on my list for a while just needed this little extra nudge.
Thanks.

Glad you like it. I guided the FA, and then did the second as well.

Like many routes in Zion, I've walked to the base of it (I even did the first solo pitch). It certainly looks awesome. Never took a liking to the sandstone. Great pictures and a wonderful area. Thanks for posting...er...linking. Ha

Toker, did you do the Monkey finger crack on the FA? Assumed it was one of your solo fas in which case I'd assume yes, but maybe not if you had a partner?

Yes. It is the feature that gave the route its name.
My partner was a sad case, disappeared in the Winds, likely a suicide.

That was my impression, well done, that might be my favorite pitch in the main canyon. Great job drilling that final slab, seems like it must have been bold.
Sorry to hear about your partner, but if you're gonna pick a place to go . . .

Did FA with Rob Schnelker in 1978, and the second in 1979 with Terry Lein and bsmoot.
Gary showed up in 1983. Nice guy, died way too young too.
