The Bit and Spur restaurant is a good place to scope the first portion of this route. Spot a notch in the skyline just south of the summit of Mt. Allgood with a huge pinion pine tree in it. This is the first landmark that you aim for. There is a series of ramps that zigzag back and forth below and left of this notch. Scramble up these ramps to gain the notch and proceed through it. Once on the east face of Mt. Allgood, contour south. You are heading for the southeast end of Mount Johnson. Many possibilities to the summit appear. The easiest way is a ramp that begins at the far south end of the east face and raps back around to the north (the way you came from). If you are on the correct ramp, you follow the mountain lion/bighorn sheep trail to the summit. An experienced party should not need a rope. Reverse the route to descend. Expect a long day. Several years ago I did an enjoyable backpacking trip up this route with a group of five. Note: This route can be used as a descent route for MoJo Risin’ and Mojina. If you decide to descend those routes this way bring a map and a headlamp.Climber Beta on Scramble Route
