Avg time to climb route: 2 day
Approach time: 5 minutes Descent time: 1 hour Number of pitches: 9 Height of route: 800' route, 900' total Overview
FA: Drew Bedford and Tim Stack, 4/93.This route is a mini sandstone version of the El Capitan’s Shield Route. Five moderate free climbing “approach” pitches lead to the Desert Shield: 400 feet of flawless, steep, and richly red sandstone. There are only two sustained aid pitches but they get your attention. An endless string of small offset nuts in shallow pin scars only occasionally yield to small cam placements. It’s hard to bring too many offset brass nuts and small offset nuts. Photos
