Avg time to climb route: 1.5 hours
Approach time: 20 minutes Descent time: 15 minutes Number of pitches: 2 Height of route: 200' Overview
This is a great introduction to runout face climbing. The moves are solid and the protection, while sparse, offer some security. The original right start is less direct with more climbing, and has one bolt to protect the first slab moves. To approach this start you need to make an exposed 4th class traverse from Harvey’s Wallbangers or, skirt the base of Hogsback around west until you can make a 3rd class scramble up to the base of the route. The direct start is unprotected but straightforward for the first 30 feet. From the three-bolt first anchor, either move left and join Manic Depression or climb up and a little right for 50 feet then traverse back into Manic Depression for the last 10 feet. The first pitch can be toproped with one 70m rope or two 50m or 60m ropes tied together. To set the toprope, climb Manic Depression for 130 feet and then step right to the bolted anchor.
