Overview
This is one of the best introductions to mountaineering in the Sierra Nevada. It is easier than its neighbor, the V Notch couloir. Conditions vary wildly depending on the snow year and temperatures so be prepared for rock, snow, and and/or ice. In general this is a snow climb in the spring and early summer and more of an ice climb in late summer and early fall. There is some easy rock climbing usually involved as well. Experienced mountaineers usually solo this route as it only averages about 40 degrees. Descend the route.
