Bay Area Bouldering, California, USA
Approach time: 10-15 minutes
Season: Year Round Number of problems: 15 Type of rock: Schist Overview
Pomo Canyon Campground is found in a lush canyon of fern-covered hills and is shrouded by a thick redwood forest. The 40-foot schist crag known as Pomo Rock is a five to ten-minute hike up the main creek from the campground. The popular Pomo Trail starts at the campground and heads west over the hills for about 2.5 miles to Shell Beach where the local Pomo Indian tribe used to meet and trade with other tribes of the area. Pomo Rock is not on the Pomo Trail, it is in the creek to the south of it. Most of the boulder problems are found in the Pomo Cave on the back of Pomo Rock and are steep test-pieces with easier, yet highball topouts. Hang and drop finishes are legit in the cave when the topouts are dirty and because most of the cruxes are right off the ground. Notable Bouldering Problems
Pomosapien Traverse V4, Chalupa V1, Ganesh V7, Middle Ground V4, Streamline V5, Ohaus V4, Pomo Roof V3 Photos
