Bay Area Bouldering, California, USA
Approach time: 5 minutes
Season: Year Round Number of problems: 10 Type of rock: Graywacke Sandstone Overview
Water polished graywacke sandstone over sandy landings on a popular beach close to Bodega Bay. Oh yes it is nice but it is also quite moody. A low tide is needed for most of the problems here to be dry, preferably a low tide in the afternoon when the west-facing cliffband gets direct sunlight to finish drying any damp nooks and crannies. Also, the sand levels fluctuate all year. Low sand is good for the low hard sit start to The Cave but it is unpredictable. There is a lot of intermediate terrain over mostly sandy landings. Hang and drop finishes are the norm since most of the bouldering is done along the base of a long 40-foot-tall cliffband with a dirty topout. Hundreds of feet of traversing can be done on good jugs.
