Bay Area Bouldering, California, USA
Approach time: 10-15 minutes
Season: Year Round Number of problems: 20 Type of rock: Sandstone Overview
A handful of intermediate to hard problems in a steep cave next to a waterfall. Sound good? It is. The cave is mostly shady in summer and it can sometimes stay dry in a light rainstorm in winter. Cool breezes blow up over the foothills from the not-so-distant ocean and the picturesque waterfall flows right next to the cave and offers a refreshing vibe of its own. The semi-long hike keeps the masses away, but for a psyched boulderer it is merely a warm up for the blood-pumping climbs inside the cave. Sinker pockets, nail biting edges and even a mini elephant trunk like tufa keep you clinging onto this overhung stone. Back when I found the cave around the turn of the century there was only a little bit of chalk on the starting holds of the Stoner Traverse but the rest of the problems seemed pretty much untouched.
