Northern California Bouldering, USA
Approach time: 15-20 minutes
Season: Late Spring Summer Fall Number of problems: 25 Type of rock: Volcanic Granite Overview
Bouldering in Lassen Volcanic National Park is like bouldering on another planet! Sulfur steam vents, mud pots boil, and eyes marvel in the splendor of hundred-mile views. Eagle Peak has the highest concentration of problems on the mountain and some great sport and trad routes as well on Eagle Lake Cliff. With a few pads to cover the often rocky landings you will have your hands full on the many multi-angled boulders with established classics from VB to V7. Most of the shorter, easier problems have been done since people started developing the roped climbs on Eagle Cliff in the 70s and 80s but a lot of potential for new highballs and hard lowballs still exists for an adventurous and imaginative boulderer. Notable Bouldering Problems
High Eagle Crack V0R****, Flying Chipmunk Arete V6***, Screaming Chipmunk Slab V1R***, Eagle Eye V1*** and Eagle Eye Traverse V6***, The Beak Traverse V1/2***, Eagle Talon V6**** and Bloody Talon V7*** Photos
