Bay Area Bouldering, California, USA
Approach time: 5-10 minutes
Season: Year Round Number of problems: 25 Type of rock: Serpentine and Greywacke Overview
On the southern end of the popular yet mellow Stinson Beach in Marin County are a few fine beach boulders. Are You Experienced and its stout neighbor The Old Man are the standouts. Are You Experienced is the smaller of the two main boulders and sports most of the hard problems. It sits against the base of the hill farther from the ocean than any of the other boulders on the beach and is therefore climbable more often. The Old Man is high with a long weird traverse and only a few boulder problems/topropes. It is closer to the ocean and gets wet every day at high tide, either a little or a lot. Scattered all around are more good boulders with a variety of problems. Local bouldering guru Russ Bobzien Notable Bouldering Problems
