Overview
Some of the best views in the entire Bay Area can be found on Mt. Tam near the viewpoint on top of the popular East Peak. There are also a few 40-50ft cliff-bands with 3rd and 4th class scrambling and good top-ropes in the 5.0-5.11 range. There are many great bouldering areas all over Mt Tam since a recent surge in development starting about 2005. The mountain now hosts about 125 boulder problems from VB-V9 and counting!
The highest concentration of problems are at The Lakeview Boulders off Lakeview Trail on the north side of the mountain. The rest of the problems are all spread out at smaller roadside areas on the way up to the East Peak.
*check out Bay Area Top Ropes for the cragging info for the East Peak of Mt Tam and don't miss the new (second printing of) Bay Area Bouldering that has a lot of beta on the new Mt Tam boulders as well as many other nearby areas. And of course look for even more new beta to come in future editions.
