Thanks Riley, an excellent read. It appears that Mr. Beyers has some explaining to do. Look forward to that !

That was worth reading. Too bad Climbing passed it up.

"We had decided that if we had to risk death-anchors to do the route, we would take whatever risks were required. We wanted to see what A6 was really like. We were honestly willing to die to find out."

Ah, who doesn't enjoy or can't relate to a climber's bravado?

Blah. I can't believe I read that.

Jensen's writing is as bland as Beyer's is annoying.

What would otherwise be an interesting climbing story comes across as lacking much soul. Sorry.

I think the answer would have to be both, Riley.

Sounds like a contrived piece of sh#t route.
No wonder Beyer didn't release a topo.
Who would want to admit to putting up a route in that style.
Calling it A6 is interesting....
calling it A7 would have been genius!

I guess A7 is reserved for imaginary towers,..

Interesting that Beyers appeared to have been the one who chopped (well, hammered a bunch of hangers flat and left a hell of a mess) on the Wall of the Early Morning Light, but the "purity" deal doesn't seem to carry over to here.

Good read

Cheers Bill.
A read of the Roberts book on expedition frauds might offer some insight into the motivation for such apparently contradictory acts.
I've only had a few conversations with Jim a long time ago so have little to base assumptions on, but my guess is that he has a lot to prove to someone.

Until I can hammer out the details for the presentation and Initial IPO of my own A-7 routes on imaginary towers (with the help of the public relations firm of Shack/Piton)I will keep those details under wraps.

I remember way back, hearing colorful stories that made me laugh, from Mr Beyer around a picinic table in Camp 4. He just seemed like a regular eccentric climber. weird.

He was, I believe, the first (only?) person arrested at Devil's Tower for not registering for a climb. -Ive heard that story from him and from a sympathetic ranger.

grout routing was what he meant, I think.

The route comprised grout, not rock.
