Whos doing the announcing? Judges?
Studly if you follow this link it lists all the people that are involved in the production of the various stops on the tour.
It lists judges and announcers as well.
This event that is going on at Punta San Carlos is being hosted by Kevin Trejo's "Solo Sports Baja"
Punta San Carlos has arguably the longest pealing wave in North America.
I have made many trips out to this awesome and very desolate surf destination and watched it evolve over the years.

The Cactus Cup in the bag and the tour is moving to the Outer Banks of North Carolina next.
Here's a delightful little video recap of the event in the Baja desert

How does one best get to Punta San Carlos...?
Joe, That depends on your budget.
Solo Sports offers complete packages with transportation, state of the art windsurf, surf, and mtn.bike gear, great food/beverages,and lodging. It is truly decadent luxury in the desert. They will ether drive you down in their shuttle van or you can fly you down in one of their contracted privet planes and land you on their privet air strip right at the campo.
I have done many trips down there and have never used Solo Sports.
I would just pack my van with camping, windsurf and surf gear, and a lot of great food and beer and hit the border at Tijuana pretty early. I then head south to El Rosario. That is one of my favorite drives. The scenery is spectacular. I used to make the trip so often that I got to know people all along the way.
Once in El Rosario you can get most anything that you might have forgotten. There is no water out on the point so you fill up on water there.
Then just south of town you take a right and keep going till you hit the ocean.
The road out to the point was notoriously bad in the old days but it has improved over the years and is now a piece of cake. In fact I thought so little of it that I would drive out once a week to get more beer and check my voice mail.
The whole trip from the border out to the point would take me about 7 hours total.

You have to admire o-man's persistence.
Maybe one of us should start posting about climbing on a windsurfing site? Say about the FaceLift - something non-controversial.

"Is Chris Seeley doing the announcing?"
Studly, He may very well be along with Josh Sampiero editor of Windsurf Magazine.
Mighty Hiker,The Taco Forum covers a vastly eclectic subject base and much of what I see in this totally awesome forum has nothing to do with climbing. And it also occurs to me that many of the posters here aren't even climbers in the first place. The Windsurf world has nothing remotely as cool as Super Topo. There aren't very many Windsurfers that climb nor are they remotely interested in climbing. On the other hand I have found that climbers seem to take an interest in surfing and windsurfing. I base my conclusion on the number of page views reported on my thread on that other climbing site.
Enthusiasm for Windsurfing took a dive some years back and I have taken it on to do my best to help regenerate an over all interest in this dynamic sport.
The AWT is drawing to a close today so this will probably be the next to last post on this thread until the 2012 season. Thanks to everyone for following the tour and sharing your thoughts and feelings. Aloha Olaf

Yes, I confirmed that Chris Seeley is the head announcer. He is waiter for 25 years now at Mama's Fish House, the best seafood restaurant in the world, which is just down the beach from Hookipa. If you have not eaten at Mama's Fishhouse, you have not lived!!! Ask for Chris as your waiter. if you go to Maui. Chris doesn't windsurf as much anymore since he almost went down for the count on a big day in the Lanes some years ago, but he is a shredder, and super funny good commentator. You guys are lucky to have him doing it! He's my old roommate, and he is originally from Nantucket, so there is a joke there. or two.

Sorry, Olaf - just teasing. There are worse things than windsurfing we could be hearing about.

OK guys hers this years wrap up for the 2011 AmericanWindsurfing Tour.
Ho’okipa Beach Park, October 31st – On what AWT announcer Chris Seeley dubbed “Monster Monday”, huge 6-8 foot surf started pounding the North Shore of Maui as the winds went a little light, making for incredibly challenging but incredibly exciting conditions. Veteran Ho’okipa sailor Josh Stone called it when he said the tricky conditions was going to leave lots of sailors on the rocks – indeed, not ten minutes into his first session, the Ho’okipa veteran took his own trip into Ho’okipa’s infamous rock garden. Fortunately, most sailors were able to to avoid the danger, and navigate the light winds, and the contest was on!
Organizers charged right into the double elimination bracket for Amateurs and Youth, mixing in the final heats from the Expert single elimination. Waves started at about logo high in the morning, and quickly pumped to near mast-high conditions as the day went on. The expert division drew a huge crowd to the bluffs and plenty of ooh’s and ahh’s from the judges are the best sailors in the world ripped into classic Hawaiian surf. While wind went slightly lighter in the afternoon and organizers had to give up hope of starting the expert double elimination rounds, the single elimination was completed in exciting fashion.
In the Master’s Class Jeff Henderson claimed the title, in the Youth Morgan Noireaux, for the women Junko Nagoshi, in the Amateur division Jay Lee, and the experts division Camille Juban. The last three heats of the day – youth, amateur and expert – were incredibly exciting for our spectators and web audience as the competitors dropped into massive waves. There was closely contested heat from Bernd Roediger and Morgan Noireaux, while amateur winner Jay Lee got lucky with Neil Turpin ending up on the rocks. In the expert’s division, Camille Juban simply dominated Kai Katchadourian, Marcilio Browne, and Josh Stone.
The winners were announced to the cheers from crowd and over the live web cam as soon as the sailors from the last heat could get a tow in, and the contest will wrap up with further celebration tonight at Maui Tropical Plantation. We’re looking forward to being back next year!
