Joan Baez - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

Ah, love that version. Thank you.

feralfae

maybe the song is referring to this:

"Let [an] impure blood water our furrows!" in French national anthem
*The lyrics contains "qu'un sang impur ... abreuve nos sillons !" which roughly translate to "let impure blood water our furrows!"

I am sure the Confederates considered the invading northern federales to be yankees with impure blood, and a lot of the South spoke french as the courtly language of society. Vraiment! :)

Great observation, feralfae.

Moving to Ireland - here's Yeats:

The Rose Tree

'O words are lightly spoken,'
Said Pearse to Connolly,
'Maybe a breath of politic words
Has withered our Rose Tree;
Or maybe but a wind that blows
Across the bitter sea.'

'It needs to be but watered,'
James Connolly replied,
'To make the green come out again
And spread on every side,
And shake the blossom from the bud
To be the garden's pride.'

'But where can we draw water,'
Said Pearse to Connolly,
'When all the wells are parched away?
O plain as plain can be
There's nothing but our own red blood
Can make a right Rose Tree.'

In the past The Black Rose was sometimes used as a code word for Ireland, when English law prohibited direct references to Ireland as a nation.

From The Little Black Rose by Aubrey de Vere

“The Little Black Rose shall be red at last,
What made it black but the March wind dry,
And the tear of the widow that fell on it fast,
It shall redden the hills when June is nigh.”

hey there say, wow... mouse...

been stuck here with slow computer... am trying another browser, but you know, it seems it may be the taco, that is giving me these 'stop pluggin' messages, for video, as they are slowing the browser... not sure...

but--wow, i got in here, today... finally...

the other threads, did fine though.. and one night, i have NO clue, why the whole things kept stalling... am taking it for a fix, i hope this week...

well, back to the post... say, THIS IS a fantastic share on the goldrush, stuff, here--nice rural things... my mom and i love seeing the old areas around these spots, though, it's been a long time since she has...

might, share a photo or two with her...

say, next... neat merced share... and please, wow, can't wait to the see the merced fairgrounds share, too!

lots of stuff here.. .sure missed a lot... been busy again, spring is here... well, a bit like fall, but spring, i think we may say, it is...
summer is coming, but can't see the summerness, and may not:
the 'computer maps' show that i may be like the spring, which is LIKE the fall, so:
we might be 'fall back' before the fall timing-trick...

hey there to all the flames, folks here...
got to get busy again... fun good busy, and takes the 'put computer fun' on hold, to get the best creativity, here in this ol' house, :))

hope to stop by again...
say, and until then... here is some mozart... just was reminded of him, by sis-in-law's post, on salzburg... :)

don't know much of many of his pieces... but THIS is what i like:

was supposed to thunder storm, here, but it 'moved around' both upward and downward, and skirted around us... maybe, though, it will have a bit for tomorrow, not sure...

happy trails, to all!!

great pictures of the sun, again, mouse, and the palm trees...
very good work!
hope cat and pidgeons are doing fine!

i have a rooster now... will share him soon...
he is 'as if a feather duster' perhaps...
so--does NOT need to be fed, but i have to keep him safe in the shed, or who knows what wild life, would still like to take a bite of him, :O

Checking in here, not sure why as it will likely just add fodder to the flames.
The stars came out last night and I finally got a real bit of sleep. Waking up to blue skies is a real blessing and though my body aches from head to toe my head is clearing. At least I can type and be reasonably certain my words, fingers and keyboards are working together. No Locker I don't need a wellness check in or a three day stay in a lock up and I certainly do not need the police involved but thanks for thinking of me anyway. FWIW the info you just posted is correct and excellent and that was good of you it may save a life.
But not in my case. You see in the moments recently faced I did nearly end myself twice. Three times if you count the involuntary behind the wheel flinch that nearly took me off the cliff when the lightning blasted over head. But I am not crazy and I am not suicidal. What I faced and continue t face is a situationally specific trauma response. If you could imagine a person choosing to jump out of the tenth story window of a burning building because they deemed it preferable to being burned alive then you can get closer to understanding my personal hell.

I could tell you of some beyond amazing occurences of late that would put a tiny spin of understanding to this issue and possibly even blow your mind. But people don't want me wasting bandwitdth waxing ponderously poetic on real life experiences envolving human fraility. So Ill just say that I've been struggling through. it took me five days of going back to the dragon's lair every day to do a day and a half job for one of my best and most valued clients. Yesterday I was virtually trapped there for ten hours managing to finish last two hours of the job between five sessions of cowering from the intense mountain squalls. The fact that I managed to perservere in the face of such adversity will eventually give me comfort and solice but now I need to staunch the internal bleedding of my invisible wound. FWIW I really was experiencing a profound episode the other day. It was curious and terrifying at the same time. Id never been a a keyboard when a lightning fugue occured. It was all so surreal even if it seemed to some unreal. I went back and reread my last post of that night and I find it frightening to see evidence of the moment of loosing one's mind happening in real time.
For all these years since the strike I have always come back from lightning fugues. It used to take longer. Even a few years ago I would have been lost for weeks after episodes like this. Now though I am broken down and stretched to limit I seem to be recovering in days not weeks. I posted a few real time videos from yesterdays session on my FB page if any friends care to check them out. But I have to leave this place. I erred in returning thinking something had cahnged. Its not the thread battles that cause me any disstress I can hang and debate for ever. But when you are so terrified that you are willing to jump from the tenth story window it doesn't help having people encouraging you to hurry. So you can nuke this thread and return to your regular programming. I'm cold turkying this place and wont even be lurking so please dont spend effort trying to get to me here. Those who want to stay cnnected know how to find me. After all how hard can it be to find a drama queen attention whore.
Lastly I want to express my sincere appreciation for the good of SuperTopo's forum, it really does exist and I have enjoyed it immensely.

Thanks for Sharon.

It's such a small gang of the nuun-usual suspex in the Climbing World
But it's not, too.

Coteries, clicks, cliques, gangs, families, but no gaggles, one or two madding crowds, ropes of three, four, or more, by the van-ful, the pick-up load, by the gross and doin' the dozens, campfires, clubs, and junior mafias, list after list of these, them, those, and the others, never the rest, always the expense, and, too much of the time, THE LOST ONES.

It is a good day to die, but it is good to know it's not this phellow Philo.

neebee can blame him for her first opportunity to complete a commission, for I offered him the chance, two years ago, but he had no time. So I then gave her a shot and I think we each think we came out ahead, got the best of the bargain.

It's all about us, not him; or them, not us.

I knew a guy who blamed a pack of wild dogs for nearly everything bad which happened to him. He was doggone crazy. We just didn't know until he ran away from home and was himself caught by the impounders while shooting at dogs in the 'hood, who told us to shun the curs-ed one. Turned out he was allergic to fleas, not crazy. He'd picked some up and it affected him greatly.

Flee the lightning, flea-collar the thunder.

It's a hot hot day out out there.

I'm in here now now but I went out out in the heat heat anyhow.

I bravely kept to the shadowy shadows on the shady side of the street and pedaled down to the Antiques Gallery looking for more bargains, to finish cherry-picking this new selection of old and used (gently read) bewks.

I found myself staring at my junior-year chemistry class lab partner when I got there, Sue, or Sue Me If I'm Wrong About This "Unknown." She was there with her hubby, son of my mom's oldest best friend in town, Lauretta, named Dickie, both retired, both looking great.

If you reach our ages, looking that good, then truly, your god is good.

She did not recognize me at first--the Muir-beard, I guess. (Who's this homelessf*#ker?)

We chatted only a short while, but not about the heat. Old time residents have more to talk about than how hot it is. It's always hot. It's always boring.

But I checked when I got home--it was 100 at about three p.m. (Is it hot enough for ya?)

I lucked out on choosing a better book over a good book, a better deal over a decent one.

Instead of Coulterville Chronicles, for twenty-eight less half off,
I snagged Ansel Adams, An Auto biography, for forty-five less half off, knocked down to eighteen because the book belonged to Barry, the Mall's owner, and he could easily knock the price right down for his good customer, me.

Ode to Mah Joy! It's gorgeous. I hope you're jealous.

Heat and short stories go together. Read this one by Ode to Joyce Carol Oates. You'll be done before the ice in your iced tea is melted. It's a sad story, but "Forget about it Fake, it's Fiction."

Exceptional. Notice the use of "objurgatory" and "clapperclawed." I'm saving those definitions for dessert, you might say. I still have to read most of it...it's longer than the short story, I think.

Have a nice day/eve and eat lightly if it's really hot...melon or tomato or fruit of another kind.

I'm sitting here wishing I'd not had Stroganoff for lunch. I wanted it for dinner last night, but they were "Closed Sundays." I've exceeded my "quota" for heavy food today.

Speakin' of dogz and technology, I actually found this photo of Ruby via the internet. If you click to enlarge, then you can see her heart before it became enlarged. The combination of failing kidneys and an enlarged heart is not a good, though, not uncommon, one.
