Hey Henny,

were you at Woodson yesterday? Are you guy with the mustache and white knickers that I keep seeing?

Anyway, to anyone who wasn't at Woodson yesterday, it must've been the best weather I've seen there. What an awesome day!

If I ever needed to go incognito all I would need to do is shave the mustache. Yes, that would be me.

For those that haven't already seen, the recent storm caused a large, ~24" diameter trunk tree to come crashing down in front of the Razor's Edge flake. I didn't have any tools but did manage to remove a good number of large branches from the trail that traverses along the base. I purposely caused the "man killer" downed tree trunk to come crashing off it's teetering perch to stabilize it. If any one can beat me to it, one more branch or so needs to be cut away from the top of the flake to reopen the problem.

Johnny, regarding the ground start to IHMT....it's gonna go! I managed to make the move up to my original, standing on the stone, start sequence but I ripped a small flapper off of my right index finger which put a halt to my progress. That's what I get for being on the couch for too long. It's a stiff one arm reach/pull, with my right index and middle finger stacked on top, in that scar at the bottom with a good right foot under the overhanging section at the bottom and my left on that nub up and left. To move the left hand above the right, thumbs up, is the crux. Moving on from there is muscle memory but definitely puts me on edge at this point. I'll get it next time, you watch!

Huh? Sickle is 4" to 12" or so. Why are your tips bloody? I just lead that thing as an OW and a TR'd it as a layback to the left not too long ago. Your tips? Your knees and elbows should be worked!

For me, Big Grunt is tame on the limb prominences. Its a fun one, that's for sure! Cracks like The Crucible and Sickle, always makes me dread that evening shower!

I'm lucky people aren't slinging my skeleton to this day as lead protection in the Big Grunt.

I downclimbed it one time after being given totally bogus instructions on how to get down from the top after doing the face to the left. As it constricted ever more while I descended I became seriously concerned that I would get stuck, but I kept pushing down thinking I was almost out of it. Finally, with most of my legs hanging out the bottom I reached the point where I could no longer move.

Talk about claustrophobic! It took minutes to extract myself and involved things like trying to calm myself enough to breath shallow so my chest wouldn't expand so much. Approaching mild panic I finally managed to gather myself enough for one last forceful push down, figuring I would either become so completely stuck that I would require forceful assisted extraction or I'd be free.

Luckily I popped out of it and dropped onto the slab beneath. Since no one had witnessed the debacle I composed myself and walked around the corner where I commented that I couldn't believe people actually would willingly do that downclimb when it was so unpleasant. All I got in reply was vacant stares, and once it was understood what I had done, ridicule.

It might have been easier had I stayed further out where it was a little wider, but I was clueless about what I was downclimbing. I imagine it was still easier to descend than it is to ascend.
