I was at the wedding of my 22 year old neighbor in the smoggy flatlands of Hamilton, Ontario. I vividly remember it was super hot and I had one of those giant triangular freezies that you could get back then. It was grape flavour and of course I got it all over my dress shirt right before we arrived.

I turned 8 that month and remember getting my first hotwheel, a cougar. I ran over to my best friend's house to impress him only to find out he had already got one, damn!

Life was good.

Just turned 6, living in Chicago, still buzzing about the moon landing, and dreaming of becoming an astronaut.

Steve....if you hadn't gotten shrapnel in your ankle in Vietnam you wouldn't have gone to the army base in Merced for a "good deal" on food, and......I wouldn't have had to eat Spam for four consecutive nights on the Salathe Wall.

In the Tetons or Black Hills, probably.

I had resigned my commission in the USAF several years prior, so Vietnam was a horror show I didn't participate in. I wasn't a hippy either. I was not addicted to the music of the time and didn't join in demonstrations. Just a pretty boring guy.

August-September was the final preseason for the old school version of the NFL/AFL schedule.

The leagues would maintain separate regular season schedules through 1969 (though some preseason games during that time featured AFL-vs-NFL matchups) as part of an agreement re-aligning the structure of professional football.

Go Broncos!

Not positive, I would have been 11 and was either avoiding Chipewyans in Churchill or jigging for cod off the dock in Port McNeil.

Every year, starting around 1966, some of us would go to the Newport Folk Festival. I started doing it in 1967 when I was going to school in Connecticut.

The lineup in 1969:
Newport Jazz Festival, 1969. The lineup was ridiculous-

Jeff Beck, Miles Davis, Frank Zappa, James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, B.B. King, Johnny Winter, John Mayall, Led Zeppelin, Ten Years After, Jethro Tull, Blood Sweat and Tears, Herbie Hancock, Buddy Rich, Dave Brubeck, Jimmy Smith, George Benson…

The last day of the festival, I heard some people talking about something bigger coming to upstate NY. We talked about it, how could it be bigger? There was no internet in those days, so it went to the back burner.

The night before, I get a call. "IT'S GONNA BE HUGE." We never made it. Got stuck in traffic and turned around. Oh well.

Teaching climbing and white water kayaking (we made our own kayaks) for my second of seven summers at Perry-Mansfield in Steamboat Springs, CO. We spent several days climbing in the Gore Range, up Boulder Creek and found an occasional solid passage of rock on Keller Mountain's north face . Then I went back to USFS fighting brush fires in So Cal. Only learned about Woodstock later. Where was Nutstory? Some good photos up-thread.
