You ever heard of a little place called the Questa Dome near Taos NM? Probably not, but you can climb on granite prettier than your mamma's panties, yes sir.

If you happen to be spending a weekend in Albuquerque for whatever reason, there are some trad routes worth doing in the Sandias. Its a complicated area so getting local beta at Stone Age gym may help for the approaches.
Mountain Mama (10c 6pitch), Excalibur (10+ 3pitch), Warpy Moople (5.9 6pitch), Aviary Oort (9+ 3 pitch), and Yucca Flower Tower/Great Escape (10+ 3 pitch) would be classic anywhere. Rock quality in the Sandias generally sucks though, so if you venture much beyond this list you are taking your life into your own hands. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Just for the record, I'd like to point out that San Fransisco, or anywhere in the Bay, completely sucks. Every time some lamo mag does a, "best places to live..." article they include San Francisco. Are these guys on crack? I lived there for four years and it COMPLETELY sucks. The only redeming quality is its proximity to the valley. Other than that, its all garbage. And don't tell me about Castle Rock, that place blows ass.

Oh come on, the Bay Area rules. Pinnacles, Mickey's Beach, those boulders in Berkeley, $20 day passes at Mission Cliffs. And the traffic going to the Sierras/Yosemite? It doesn't get any better.

Now whats the beta on this Fresno place?

I moved to Fresno and scared the sh#t out of myself. The place was filled with Bloods and other undesirables, like Mexicans, who for some reason don't spend every free cent climbing rocks. Jesus, what is WRONG with people? I wish every day that I was back in Boulder where people have their priorities straight.

I'll say it once and agian a couple of times..
Durango Colorado has it ALL. Granite, Sandstone & limestone cragging ALL near town. Within a 6 hour circle you can climb walls in Zion, & Red Rocks. The Black is 4 hours away, can be in castle valley and the fishers in 3, the Creek in 2...oh yes, silverton and ouray harbor some of the best ice in the country...the bars are fun, the girls are fine and you can hitch practically anywhere. Name ONE reason why you wouldn't want to live here and be a climber.
Oh yes, & I forgot to mention the abundance of sick backcountry skiing/mountaineering.

No one implied it was. It just happens to be the best place on the planet to climb. Naturally, that pisses off most non-Californians. Funny.

Yes, it is rather quiet 1500 feet from the valley floor, isn't it?
