I have to agree with Werner on this one, the worst drug is probably self deception.
It is self deception that the feelings one gets out of any of the other drugs, etc. have a deeper meaning than the physiological effects, especially if the experience results in just the "feel good, go with the flow" sort of lifestyle. As Werner wrote elsewhere, this sort of "feel good" addiction leads to the desire for more... rather than a deeper understanding of the origins of the desire.
I love the feeling of going deep into the outback, weeks away from civilization. Without an examination of the origins of that feeling, the reductio ad absurdum is that I completely opt out of being back here, I am always outback, yet I can not ever get far enough away to boost that feeling. The place that I am in is never as novel as the first time, so I would up the ante. And to what end? just to capture that feeling.
Yet if I return and have an understanding of why that feeling is important to me, I might find there a bit of insight that I can use and generalize and be more broadly effective. Such as taking on environmental issues. But I have to overcome that desire to just get the bigger high on the next trip. I have to overcome the deception I place on myself regarding myself.
As the bumper sticker says: "Don't believe everything you think"
That is the worst drug.

How do tell the difference between;
following your Bliss
&
being lead astray by your ego or ...?
In the first, sometimes you have to trust your instincts, and in the second, similarly, you can't.

I have found that it seems.....
The "follow your bliss" sort of things definitely works.
But the process takes me down a path that eventually comes to a vista deeper with, yet more work to be done.
And so, it goes, unending.

What is that quotation that goes something like:
"There is no answer. There never was an answer. There's never going to be an answer. That's the answer."
(Sorry, I may not have it exactly correct.)

"There is no answer. There never was an answer. There's never going to be an answer. That's the answer."
That is impersonalist mayavadi philosophy by Sankaracarya
In the end Sankaracarya even said that his own philosophy that he was preaching was nonsense and to reject it.

I would modify my own approach:
"there is no answer, there never was an answer, there isn't going to be an answer", but you can still learn by seeking the answer.
If your view of knowledge is that it is provisional, and that there is a way to obtain it, that we do the best that we can in understanding, then I believe we can make progress.
But what do I know, I'm a secular materialist, and godless scientist to boot!

Hmm... the worst in my experiance. Those keyboard spray cans, you get so high you end up passing out holding the button down and then you end up puking all over. I still felt less f*#ked up on crystal but it sucks coming down off that stuff.

My final vote is meth. I have seen many of my friends go down hardcore.
A kid I know stayed up for for 22 days and only eating sunflower seeds.
Oh and they teach you how to make it on the internet...

William S Burroughs gives a pretty good drug encyclopedia somewhere in his book Naked Lunch. Pretty F'd up book though. If you can read it (or even watch the movie and claim to understand it for that matter), you should get yourself checked out.

I don't think Naked Lunch is to be "understood" in the normal sense. Things keep resonating back from it, though;
"I am addicted to drugs that haven't been invented yet."
& the bit about the world wide plaque stemming from people f*#king monkeys.
Then, of course, the Mugwumps.
Also interesting how he could go from that prose style (also used in Nova express and the Western) to a direct, rational, almost rational/hemingway-esque one in Queer and Junky.
Embrace the inner wierd.

Some beta regarding lois's suggestion about separating out drugs so you're not stuck eating too much Tylenol with your codeine.
Mom just had hand surgery so I was just chatting with some docs and phram-dudes.
Codeine with Tylenol Generic Vicodin cost about 8 bucks for 30.
Codeine with Ibuprofen Generic costs about $31 for 30.
Best best, buy Norco 10-325 which has twice the codeine and less tylenol and cut them in half. Per MG of codeine it's even cheaper than the vicodin and then supplement with over the counter ibuprofen which is practically free.
This way you can use less codeine during the day so you're not as groggy too.
I'm going to guess that docs wouldn't be as sketched prescribing Norco as Oxy since it's got this hot-button name these days.
