Well Lynne if you move out towards Minden NV you can always look here to see if any jobs are available North Sailmakers Minden NV. Yep they make sails in Minden and Big ones at that. A good Majority of Americas Cup Sails and Superyacht Sails are made in Minden.

Click on the link below and scroll down these were taken by a friend 3 years ago during a tour of the facility.

Come on Lynnie, I'd never suggest such to you! But your life is here, we'd all miss you, that's not to say we couldn't visit, but you do have a really cool set up in VC and a beautiful home. Maybe try half a years somewhere else then come back to your roots for the other half. Just sayin' we'd miss you that's all! Yerian would then have no reason to come down either!!!! THEN what would I do???? You got yer life dialed and if you need a change then I'm 100% behind you!
Peace

"nicest place imaginable"......I'm chuckling. It's a bit run down, 30 year old home with more weeds than I'd like to see but I think people like it cuz of the good vibes. Alot of love has happened here including two of my kiddos weddings. People have always pretty much been a priority and we've had alot of Gatherings.

Everyone needs a "facts and reality" coz in their life.

Ron, you were the first one to welcome lynnie back into the climbing fold several April's ago and made some great things happen since. So I be listening.

I like to make decisions by committee. And Yeah, barbarian, I honor his way the most. But I think he does post on the Taco :D

True Story: We'd lived in Valley Center about 15 years. One day Dan says, "Sure glad we raised the kids here instead of La Jolla." (No offense Kevin Worrell :D)

"What do you mean La Jolla," I asked ? "Oh, when we made the move to San Diego County I checked out the beach area too."

"WHAT ? You mean we could have lived in La Jolla ? ( I LOVE the ocean )
I agreed with the decision, but wondered how many other ones I'd missed out on. Life......no person you marry is perfect. Appreciate the good and forgive the decisions yo never got to make. :DD

Interesting and meaningful suggestion from cosgrove. Who'd of thought that likely the most accomplished climber in the crowd would advocate living in the city over the sticks?

His point is a good one, though you need to sift it thru your personal filter. In the early 90s I quit a job working in downtown LA, making good money but little time for life, with the intent on moving to Boulder, mostly for the climbing of course. It seemed like a perfect fit but then I started thinking about it. Though I love being close to the outdoors and the crags, I love the culture of the city. I was born and raised in So Cal and loved the coast. All my friends and family are in So Cal. When I went to visit Boulder after I quit my job (since anyplace you visit on vacation seems great since you're not at work), it seemed filled with these somewhat detached but really fit people.

Long story short, I stayed here and, while I often grumble about not having the time or ability to get out climbing, I've never regretted my decision. Oddly enough my parents recently retired to Denver. When I visit, it seems beautiful and all but it's not where I'd choose to call home. For me the choice was family and friends over what amounted to recreation. Your situation may be totally different but only you know that for sure.

BTW, I remember you and Dan from the Beach and bouldering at Hart Park back when I was a 17 or 18 year old punk. I always envied his Porsche, not to mention how casually he sent stuff. Amazing what life throws at you. I wish you luck with your decision.

Fat Dad, Mucho thanks for the post....especially the last bit about Dan. I was pretty straight but I didn't notice any "punks" so think you weren't.

Those were the days. Nice ones. Dan worked hard at climbing and work. The porche was a fun thing that we appreciated. When Dan and I got married at 19 and 20 neither of us even owned a car. :D

Thanks for the memories. Peace, lynnie

Edit: I don't usually ask "what would Dan do". He was a great leader, husband and Dad. He had an incredible brain. But Lynne is lynne. Different. I only mention this because if anyone else is dealing with life and changes like I am you need to be you.

Thanks for weighing in Mr. Haan and Monsieur Donini. You sum up two important truths.

No matter where lynne goes she needs to be happy with lynne.

and

A person knows the way in their mind and soul, they just need to follow it... tho at times the approach may be difficult and the route unclear.

Edit: brokedownclimber....didn't get the PM yet :D

If you sell your house in SD (San Diego, I presume) you could buy three, hell five, in Portola. No jobs, but lots of red necks, a little meth,.... we get plenty of sunshine most the year, 'bout an hour from the good skiing around Truckee. And it is East Side. Thought you might as well consider all options.

mariko and i are going through the same process but probably won't make the move for about a year. some notes:

sonora is nice for westsiding, close to good wineries, not too far from yosie. twain harte, just up the pass road, is a town with a literary name, and according to one ST thread, gets visited by a sasquatch. it isn't the place you go, it's the company you keep. that ski area (roger dodger or something like that) is in the heart of the critter's domain. sonora has one of the longest parades in california, and we actually enjoyed sitting through it. i think those fish in the stream flowing through downtown are trout. and the chinese restaurant stayed open after hours for us because we looked hungry and tired.

bishop--ah, what can i say? the center of the universe and everyone is moving there. tahoe is for people who think they have money. mammoth would be nice if it weren't for all the huge ugly buildings. did someone mention shoveling snow? that's how you keep your back straight after you hit 60.

arcata--was up there last weekend for woodfair, to meet fellow impoverished woodworkers. not close to good climbing and skiing, but the homemade music beats bishop's. this is beer country, not wine country, and i hear they've seceded from both california and the u.s. nice uni at humboldt state. got brains?

Since you also like the beach have you considered a Northern California coastal town (from Monterey up towards Half Moon Bay?) Easy trip to Yosemite, and other mtns. Reasonable outdoor climbing in the area, several climbing gyms within the area; and you don't have to deal with the "winter" hassles...leave the snow behind when you are done playing. A quote from my all time favorite movie "Harold and Maude" : "live like a tree, with your feet firmly on the ground and your head towards the stars". Good luck! Susan

Well, I am just Blessed to have so many friends and so much good advice. Coz, it's very tempting.......renting a room instead of being sole caretaker of a home and several acres. Think of the free time I'd have.

SCseagoat.....I have thought of that area, but sunshine is a major component of my life. I don't do well in extended gloom. I don't mind gloom for a week or two if it's raining, but that's about it with overcast with no sunshine. :D

What is the thing you are looking to find?

A change of scenery or something deeper and more personal?

Answer that question and you will have your answer.

(Going all Werner on you aren't I?)

In the meantime, may I suggest that you go to the Eastside or where ever and couchsurf some ST'ers or do the motel route and just spend time wandering around the village and soaking up the vibe. Places that look really inviting from the comfort of a roadtrip BMW can quickly become black holes when you actually live there.

Back to my original thought - I wonder if you are questing to find out who YOU are? Sounds like before you were part of the longterm dynamic duo of Dan and Lynne. Now you are just Lynne and may not be sure who or what that is.

For myself, I have always been a proponent of reinventing one's self every 10 years. Make a hard left turn without signaling properly and see what is going on over that-a-way for a decade. Sometimes it didn't work out so hot, but more times than knott, that adventure freed you from the constraints of who you were and allows to you grow into who you can become.

Life is really too short to live it the same way day in and day out.

Dare to be Brave!!!!
