i can remember dave yerian @ 1981 telling me he was gonna do a route and call it "to tough for tube socks"...a reference to jim collins in colorado..

BTW, these photos blow the lid off the myth that you need super tight fitting shoes and no socks to be able to climb hard. Kudos to all those who wear socks in their shoes. Don't be fooled by yet another bogus climbing myth.

Was / Is there a benefit to wearing socks? I started cimbing just post-stocking era. Why the switch? Was it because the shoes changed to down-turned, slingshot last, tighter, etc?
