A blast from the past.

So I went out to shoot the train today.
I got to R Street and the old tracks between 16th and 15th before the sun went down and set up next to the train tracks.
It was pleasantly warm.
A few passersby stopped passing by to remonstrate.
One man said he'd seen spirits down that way.
He and I were looking southeast towards the old depot and the Yosemite Area Rapid Transit/Greyhound depot.
I openly scoffed and said that, no, my camera didn't have the ability to shoot spirits when he asked about that.
I then told him of a time back in the late 1800s and early 1900s when the area over on 16th was a rough-and-tumble place, an open city, as some described it.
Drunks abounded.
The newspapers here (the Argus, the Sun, the Star) often notified readers of the death of yet another poor sot who was the victim of a train.
Deaths from a mangled body were fairly common.
The dude left and some time later Dickie came by.He claimed to sleep nearby--over in the freeway right-of-way, I think he meant, but he was not clear and cogent, shall we say.
He said that the trains drove him bats because he could not sleep well.
Well, duh!
I told him that I'd lived part of my young-young life in Redding next to the tracks that ran through both Redding and Merced, and that I knew his pain.
He waved his hands in the southeasterly direction and said something like a professor of architecture might, only he waved his hands so much it really did distract me.
He told me the ballast stones were blowing out from the speed of the high-ballin' trains.
It's normal, I told him.
It's gonna get someone killed, he said. And he pointed at himself.
I just said Otay and he left in a happy frame of mind after we'd introduced ourselves to each other.
Then the train arrived from the northwesterly direction and when its engines came flying by I grabbed the tripod and camera and turned out from the tracks.
When I had my back to the blast of wind caused by the train's passage lasted well over a minute after it Its force had knocked my hat off, but it just lay there until I'd got some pics of the receding train.
I had forgotten how much of a thrill it is standing next to the locomotive as it comes hell-bent for Fresno and points south.

People gotta live and pollute somewhere.
Looking at all that flat stuff, goin' all the way to Red Bluff.
Reminds me of just how many folks have never had any
Experience at elevations much higher than a few hundred feet.
They've never taken a hike longer than a few city blocks,
or traveled further than the city bus will take them,
and never will.
And it makes the climber in me happy...
and the teacher a little sad.
See?

Cab log entry--star date today, expiration date sooner than you expect.
Inter'sting story...
I was looking for "cabal" related items on the net.
Came across the link to the Kelly Gang film checking under caballero.
That led to this, eventually, to make a long inter'sting story short and suck'stinkt.
May the Force of the Horse be with you, Mrs. Kirk'Out, wherever you are.
Cabtain Calloway
And now I'll be gone a few hours...I'm watching Star Wars/Threads of Destiny, which happened to show up on the tail end of that last trailer.
Whoo-hoo!
