Flamenco, Genco, it's all olive squeezings.
And here's Oyl and a man at home rigging a main-royal on a mast or a belay on the rock, not quite so famously as Fossil Climber, perhaps.

Damn it, Gypsy. Bevin just called up a half hour back. It was a brief chat, about her computer and Christmas and her birthday. Groovy. "The present's in the mail, Melodious Lady, Angelic One. Now go have fun." It wasn't really like that, I'm looping a smarty-pants reply to her she doesn't deserve. I couldn't help her if Boomer had not left some money for his tribe. It certainly feels good to share and give God and Boomer the credit, not me personally. If you can't learn that around this place, where can you?
Bevin, well, she's having friends in for an evening of dressing like divas. It's almost Christmas, this group does it traditionally now for five-six years, so it's great she can have this and a new computer, too. It's tough having a Christmas-time birthday. It's wonderful to hear from her twice in one week, and we had that short visit on Thanksgiving.
I still got teary-eyed, Gypsy. Felt good. Dingus good.
Five minutes after, her step-brother Scott returned a call I left this morning. I wanted him to know I'd left a package at his workplace, kids' gifts. We hadn't spoken in over four or five months. I'm working on bridging the gap between Scotty's wife and me, which is maybe in my head, but we'll let it ride and not make any judgements. This has gone on way too long. Like the lady expressed in the Frog Shop, family politics blah blah blah or something. Scott and I are close enough we can drop any BS--it's just not my place to try to criticize his wife to him.
I want the opp to show the oldest how the Valley might interest him. Nothing sinister there, I can only speculate on anything so may as well not. It's why I like this little video of a very young climber. You tune out the rest and concentrate--though she apparently is chatting to someone lower down.

The last day to order anything and have any hope of getting it under the tree this year is December 19th, Wednesday. Even then you are cutting it way close. If you don't really need it under the tree, but it would be nice to have, let us know if we have any slack. Some guys will be heartbroken if the stuff does not arrive on time, and clogging up the system if you don't really care would sorta suck for them.
And if the whole end of the world Mayan Calendar thing works out, it won't matter anyway.
Cheers and have a great holiday--Russ

forgot to share the other night, after you son was hurt:
i had a very neat book, when i was a young highschool gal that i found about the gypsies... i wanted to know who they really were, as it seems
so 'not right' as to all the various things portrayed about these folks...
it was simply called 'the gypsies' i think...
or wait: it could have been called: GYPSIES just not sure at this momment
i will know, when i find teh cover picture...
told of all kinds of root origin, travels, various groups in various countries, etc... pictures as well of various things...
had found it university of santa cruz, but since, i have seen it on line...
sadly, i had lost it somewhere while moving, :(
CAN'T find the picture of it... saw it the other night though:
it had a young gal in a RED dress on it...
*who was the older man that played flamenco that they brought in for:
around the worlds in 80 days--?

Happy New Year! Felices fiestas, amigo!

Interjection needed, neebee. Thanks. I was beginning to think no one was awake. Thanks from the bottom of my toasty little heart for telling us you danced flamenco. Etc. You know that blanket I told you about the other day? It's just as cozy and luxurious as a duvet any day. The "E" is like a plucked apple. Or is it the "A"? I forget.
Here's the story behind the video of Quicksilver Messenger Service, etc. Talking about The Second New Year's Eve Bash sponsored by Bill Graham at Winterland, SF. There were sets played by the QSM, JA, and many others. It has not much to do with climbing, but is part of my story, the story of the Rev, and Mark McAllister, his Flames "momma" Belle Coates, Julie Mathis--the Rev's sister, and Jack Meade, Larry Jones, and myself, all three "property of USN."
But first I need to listen to the rest of this video and get high. I was there as you might surmice.
Whether it was all recorded after midnight, during the midnight hour, around midnight, or took place in a midnight lightning storm, is irrelelvant. It's the night, morning, really, that Jones and I split White Lightning. This is an interesting story. To my mind.

hey ther mouse... yep, awake... the little boy that i am babysitting will wake up at about 8:30... i was going to go back to sleep, as i woke up at about near 2 am... went to sleep early as he didd, being that i was up all night the night before... :O
but i am too awake now.. i can go to sleep, after he leaves, at 10:00 or so...
so very sorry i cannot see any of the youtube stuff that you and gypsy and all, sahre sahre = share... i type 'transposing' style and it is getting harder and harder to fix... so weary to fix nearly every word, :(
so i just may start typeing in code translation for many words, from now, on, :))
say--am still trying to one day catch gypsie's radio station stuff...
i love music from all over.. .that is bueaty of 'orientle/belly dance/dance de ventre--it can be danced to all kinds of music...
tahitian and flamenco sure are speical in their own frame, though, :)
and lovely hawian, too... i did some of that, both old and new style, but not anymore... need to match story to musci/music for that, and that takes extra time, than just 'moving with musci/music...
:)
well, say now, happy good morning...
*oh, i saw a post on the hyphens... i LVOE/LOVE hypens... i used to use the all the time, typing here, too, but as dial up takes longer nd longer and type goes bad and is harder to do, i hve SADLY left them out... :(

The Glenlivet in my hand and Ariel Sierra Hamm weren't around in 1967. This is for those who wondered about early SF. When I was twenty early SF meant to me the times when the Sutro Baths were the hot attraction.
Now it might mean a lot to every succeeding generation that passes through the Bay Area, but it naturally means different things to different segments of each ov those generations. Not everyone was a beatnik and not everyone was a hippie and certainly not everyone was punk or post-punk or retro whatever.
The Flames came about in the year 1968. The Cal climbers were 7-10 years earlier, or nearly so.
When the Cal climbers infested Ritter's palatial digs in Berkeley, they were just the same, only different, as the three of us at Apathy House in El Grovo Pacifico. We were less climbers, then, but came to be more so, and filled out nicely, in a manner of speaking. The Berkeley Boys were excitable collegians and dropping-outs leading the same existence, but listening to different tunes, and hitting or missing with the misses just like we did in our peninsula pad.
Apathy House was an official Flames clubhouse when we move in in 1969, fall, just after the release of Abbey Road. we had become Flames the summer before, the late spring, maybe. We all just kind of morphedinto Flames from the remnants of the Dirty Hands of America (I never had much of any truck with this outfit as I was in St. Mary's and in boot camp during this clique's high tide).
Now that I look at it, I was fortunate to have gone away during this lowest of social high tides in the Merced I lived through in this era. It's boring in the SJV. It is for the purpose of relieving this boredom God allowed Yosemite to be spotted just up the road a piece. and brought quicksilver to earth.
"Everybody get up and dance for a change."--bill g

I live a block from the local Tahitian, Hawaiian, Samoan dance studio on Main St. They participate in many functions on Main St., like parades, and the show up for the street fairs. Here is something you can share with us, neebee. We shall all bear that in mind, hopefully--that is such a good thing to fix back there in the control panel of my mind.
Speaking of which, it was altered Jan. 1, 1968, significantly. Why do some people feel it's necessary when some others have control problems like seizure, is not mine to wonder over, at least not here. It is ironic, though, in a number of ways, i must say...
In addition to the folks mentioned earlier, the Flames et. al. from Merced, was Sharon Gomes [typed in Flores there and it did not compute, heh--glad I caught that!] who ended being married to the Rev within months--that's another tale. All concerned were there to jam with Quicksilver, the main homegrown Merced contribution to the Haight/Ashbury music scene.
In the wee hours of all-night gigs like this was, when things get a little slack, nobody's really paying attention, things happen. Some cat gave Sharon a hit of relampago blanco de LSD. So Sprout (her nickname) didn't want it--she had to go home that morning with the others and no one knew she had made the trip to SF (one of those capers, uh-huh, so she could be with the Rev).
Larry and I split it in two. I immediately began wanting to leave for some reason and Jones tried to reason with me that we were "in the Navy, for Shit's sake, Mouse. This is what squids do, get f*#ked up and let the SPs deal with it. And we have all the time in the world. Liberty's not over for a long time."
Jones had to get back to Monterey, to Defense Language Institute and bone up on Indonesian, Jack had to go back to the USS Hand Job at Hunter's Pt., and I needed to report back to barracks at TI. The rest were all cruising back to Merced with the Rev in his Fairlane.
Long story short.
It got weird then.
Everybody bonded over in Golden Gate Park.
Kumbaya.
We climbed a few trees, smoked a doob to "mellow us out"--hah!--and we all went our separate ways long before noon.
It beat the hell out of New Year's Eve in Merced.
I wonder where I'll be this year?
....
Country Road Twelve at Avenue Nine
Almost heaven, Merced County,
Sierra Mountains, Yosemite Valley,
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze
Chorus:
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
Is it Merced, mama, or somewhere else?
Take me home, country roads
All my memories, gathered 'round her
My fair city, stranger to blue water
Hot and dusty, painted on the plain
In fall it smells like onions, they make some damn fine wine
Chorus
I hear her voice, in the morning hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin' Ninety-Nine I get the feeling
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday
Chorus x 2 (modulates)
My profound apology to John Denver for taking liberty with his work

Hey, thanks! I have on a red pile garment here and it's just the same color. The Flames are red, but have little to be embarrassed over, except I forgot to mail YOUR present while doing all the other mailing the other day. I went in and out of the old post office three times and didn't get yours mailed! It's ready, just today's Sunday.
I ordered myself a pink rope yesterday.
The whole thing here with the New Year's gig serves the purpose of furthering the climbing career of Mr. Mathis and myself especially. He and I got to climb Sunnyside together as my official first roped climb, thanks to two young ladies who were already on the route with a rope when we showed up aat the belay. I have told that story. I may or may not have mentioned how Sharon Mathis (married by then) and I gonce got way up the off-route chute on Sunnyside, un-roped. We were lucky to get down out of that deadly spot without consequences. Oh, you've been there, too? It's really an easy mistake.
Sprout was just a small part of our tale, but she does have something major to do with it. She is the only one Jeff ever married and she cured him of it permanently. It opens the scene for countless cameos by other ladies, climbers and non-climbers, skiers and non-skiers, most of whom were dancing partners first, of the Rev.
Like Sharon. She just happened to get pregnant and that happens. It was a difficult time for them, as her pregnancy wasn't easy. At the Fillmore West one night in 1969, during another visit from Julie Mathis and friends, she had her miscarriage. "Where's Jeff, Julie?" "Man, Sharon bled all during the Fleetwood Mac set and Jeff took her to the ER. We need to find the others and get a ride with them."
Their marriage went south immediately. C'est la vie.
The Rev was almost free to go climbing, but he needed to do a few things, like ensure he had enough work time to get a climbing grant!

Happy New Year all, not forgetting of course the boys and girls in the band and both Brians.
Speaking in a most peculiar way, if you're out tonight on your bikes you know what to wear.
The good news is that after 12 years of being on them, I'm off the meds (levothyroxine, and yes the first one was free).
