Didn't catch up on all the posts. csdude, that's over the top hilarious!

Bobbsie, don't try and play the martyr. Get a grip on the personal attack crap. You consistently avoid a discussion by weakly attempting to insult.

Mimi...you are like a pitbull without teeth...a lot of anger and attacking but no damage.

Does your boyfriend drag you up everything or do you just pull on a lot of slings????

Is that better??

Steve W,

Wasn't that show called "The Rangers"? or something trite like that? I was in the valley FT back then and got work with that show........oh the memories of the lunch van. Makes me embarassed at how much food I packed away.

I wonder what would happen if a particular unclimbed dome in Tuolumne were declared "off Limits" to bolting or if an unclimbed cliff in somewhere else were declared the same. You could climb but just not bolt.........OR if it were declared off-limits to trad climbing, only sport climbing allowed, you just wouldn't be allowed to run-it-out...

I feel sorry for you too, Bob, but you're the one that's adopted the geriatric climbing ethics.

Besides, I thought I was more like your wife, Cujo.

Might have been called Sierra of which The Rangers was one of the episodes in this short lived series. It was in 1974, so it was too early for a confrontation between trads & sports. They probably should have had a battle between the ironmongerers and the clean climbers.

Your proclivity to piss all over the place is the root of this thread, Bob. Or is that your style? Dogstyle.

Bob, the problem for me bridging this gap is the fact that guys like you think all sport climbing and sport climbs are a positive for the sport with no downsides. In fact, I'd say it's your virtual 'Musicman' approach to the promotion of climbing while simultaneously being unwilling or unable to acknowledge any downsides at all to bolting that makes compromise all but impossible for me personally.

And I while no one but you can say, I can't help but wonder if there isn't a bit of self-promotion in this degree of 'sharing' and publishing the wonders of our sport to the masses. Whatever your motivation, I make no apologies whatsoever for taking a stance diametrically opposed to yours. I have no desire whatsoever to see the sport or crags overrun by people who otherwise would never have been there were it not for gyms, bolted lines, and promoters like yourself.

I'd go so far as to say I'd love to see the demographics of the sport collapse, but now that they are permanently propped up the annual tidal flow of gyms and a steady stream of bolted routes that is now unlikely to happen. People finding their own way to the stone was one thing - drilling, commercializing, and promoting it is another thing entirely. Pandora's Box is clearly open in that regard, but yet again, that in no way makes it a good thing - unless you're in some commercial end of the business or make an avocation of the promotion of it.
