gee Jaybro, do you think you'd need it... Dingus has that rigged on stretchy ropes rather than real iron...

Khanom - not much difference from all the fixed rap anchors/chains
already drilled & fixed in our Yosemite rock.

Via Ferrata's are considered a lot of fun and harmless to mountains.
Buy a ticket and go over there and climb a peak a day for
as long as you can get off work. Really its a blast.

"I'll go postal if they do. I gonna go sight in my rifle this weekend."

Nice comment Riotch. A few years back, there was a guy in the parking lot of the Seneca Rocks vistors center who was sighting in climbers with his rifle and scope. He and his redneck buddies were laughing about what an easy shot it would be to take out a climber. Of course they were just good ol boys with a warped sense of humor. But we climbed on the back side that day.

One of my favorite Seneca Rocks stories.

Couple of folks from the city were out walking on the bottom land while their dog was chasing sheep. (That can kill sheep.) The farmer came out on his back stoop and shot the dog. The city folk charged up to the house to protest and knocked on the front door. The door opened and the farmer pistol whipped the both of them.

The judge dismissed all charges. Justified.

Kinda weird people down there, not like us. They expect us to treat them just as well as we treat ourselves.

For sure when we are on their land, uninvited.

Another thing about the people in Mouth of Seneca to keep in mind as they interface with us. The people in Mouth of Seneca who came there after the War still have not been fully accepted by those who were there before the War.

The Civil War.

The one at Torrent Falls, Red River Gorge is a total gas. I was there a few years back on a family vacation (my wife's sister lives in Louisville), could not find a climber partner, nor a way to the top of the cliffs to solo-toprope. So I see this thing, think what the heck, I drove all the way out here...

And it turned out to be one of the most fun days I've ever had climbing! The woman running the place was super nice, said most climbers scoff at it. Well, don't! Check it out, it's quite novel and quite fun. I did some speed laps and got in quite the workout...

These steel highways are pretty cool in my book. There's one in Telluride, skirting the top of the Pipeline Wall - most of it is easy 3rd classing, with an airy traverse on rungs that will want you having a rope or one of those jingus clusterf__k screamer devices.

Does the approach to Knuckle Busters (up Indian Canyon in The Valley) count as a via ferrata? Those ladders and such were pretty fun back in the mid-seventies. Are they still there?

Nothing close to the real ones in the Dolomites! Those things are great fun on rest days!

There are several sorta-VFs in Acadia NP in Maine

There is an old one which traverses through one of the bubbles, above and below some good climbing. These old Acadia Via Ferratas are big iron I-bolts with mild steel cable run through the eyes. One high for the hands and one low for the feet. Most traverse with ladders to ascend/descend. Most of these are pretty sketchy and don't exist in modern trail guidebooks to the area. However, a few are relatively well maintained and provide some real excitment.

I'm thinking that a Via Ferrata right up the middle of the steepest wall @ Rifle could be fun.... sound good?

Some parts of El Cap are already essentially via ferratas.

Seems like a blast to me.

I bet all the via ferrata's in the entire world have damaged/displaced less rock than what's been removed from road cuts in the valley.
