"Well dirtbag, if you guys would nominate a worthwhile candidate at the TOP of your ticket you wouldn't have to worry about her. Not too much confidence in your guy, eh? "
More like I have lots of confidence in the right-wings ability to propogandize, market and smear. They're damned good at that.
I like Obama but I do not think Obama is the perfect candidate by any means, nor was he my first choice, though by the time I was able to vote it was him or Hillary and I could not vote for Hillary.

MH, I think it's too soon to conclude that. The most recent polls were mostly conducted before the Convention was over, and some of the polling occured before Palin's and McCain's speeches.

Tom, yes, in many ways one's occupation does say a lot about them.
Who else would defend a position they KNOW to be false, for money and a living? There are exceptions to the lawyer rule, of course, but they are for the most part not to be trusted IMO.
This is where I read about the lawyer thing... http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/09/want_real_change_quit_nominati.html
Anders, is one of the nicer legal practioners.

And Fidel Castro played semi-pro baseball in the U.S. He's still really bummed that other countries aren't invited to play in the "World" Series.
And Yasir Arafat was an engineer. Josef Djugashvili (Stalin) was a seminarian. Hitler a twice-decorated foot soldier who served all of World War I at the front.

Read my post up thread again, my point was...
"And why do Dems keep running fuking lawyers on their ticket."
People don't really like lawyers for a reason. And not all lawyers are bad, BUT CAN WE GET SOMETHING ELSE OTHER THAN LAWYERS TO RUN THE COUNTRY FROM THE DEMS!!!!!!!!
Is that clearer, ElCap?

You know, RJ, there are a lot of wolves in Alaska. (And other large critters with teeth.) A LOT of wolves. Palin's motto, in parody of Roosevelt's "A chicken in every pot" is "A wolf in every state".
Of course, GWB is a card-carrying member of the east coast Republican elite, from Connecticut.

Hitler wouldn't be qualified - although wounded several times, he was never taken prisoner.

Why do Dems keep running lawyers? Do you know the last time a SENATOR was elected president? Or a black man? Or a woman? If that was the criteria by which we were picking presidents we'd have white men across the board.
Oh wait the republicans always do.

The reason why you have so many lawyers as presidential candidates is that you're typically pulling from a pool of congressman and senators, all of who are legislators. They make laws. Lawyers become legislators because (apart from political ambition) are familiar with the law.
Not sure why all the hostility towards lawyers, it seems to me that they're scapegoats for peoples' grief about the law and society. But one benefit about electing lawyers is that they generally respect and uphold the rule of law far more than non-lawyers. A perfect example of that is W's eight years in office and the firing of U.S. attorneys who didn't fall in line with the party. That is repugnant to me.
And remember, Lincoln was a lawyer too, a darn good one.

Even if Obama had selected Gray Davis as his VP or McCain had selected Larry Craig, it wouldn't make much difference. People vote for the party and the name at the top of the ticket. They don't care about the VP until a President dies or resigned and then it's too late--they're stuck with what they have. Lucky for all of us, the first Pres. Bush survived his term and we didn't end up being governed by a President Quayle.

Palin stonewalling the Troopergate investigation. So much for creating the most transparent and accountable government in history.
=
"In July, when legislators started talking about conducting an investigation, Palin denied any wrongdoing and said she welcomed an investigation.
"Hold me accountable," she said.
The Legislature took her up on that offer. But this week, she basically told the Legislature, "Never mind."

Troopergate is going nowhere.
"So here are some key facts to keep on file (for a full report on Wooten, see adn.com/front/story/476430.html). You may not be seeing much of them from here on:
• Mike Wooten, 35, has been a trooper since 2001. He has been married and divorced four times. One of his marriages was to Palin's sister, Molly McCann, with whom he had two children. That marriage ended in 2006. His behavior leading up to the divorce led Palin's and McCann's father, Chuck Heath, to file a formal complaint about him to the state police.
• Heath and Sarah Palin, who was not yet governor, said that Wooten had threatened to kill Heath — telling McCann that Heath "would eat a f***ing lead bullet" if he hired a lawyer for her. They also charged that he had used a Taser on his own 11-year-old stepson, had drunk beer in his patrol car and had shot a cow moose without a license (the latter a crime in Alaska, where such licenses are not easy to come by).
• The state police investigated these charges and substantiated all of them. Col. Julia Grimes, then head of the Alaska State Troopers, suspended Wooten for 10 days and wrote, "The record clearly indicates a serious and concentrated pattern of unacceptable and at times, illegal activity occurring over a lengthy period, which establishes a course of conduct totally at odds with the ethics of our profession." She warned him he would be fired if he didn't shape up. The troopers' union got the suspension cut to five days."
IBD 9/4
But then maybe the libs like having guys like this in law enforcement.
