Gotta bump this baby just because mom and pop are looking so content in that last photo but even more bacause I remember my little rascals when they first came out, looking around, wondering, ..what,... what is going on out here.
Only one cog turning in thier new minds.

Well the first night Rachel and I lost the war. There was NO sleeping on anyone's part. However, since 11am yesterday, we have established a pattern that has continued ever since. 2 - 2 1/2 hours of sleep followed by 30min of breastfeeding. Fortunately the learning curve is high. Here's some of what we figured out:
One - We were not burping Syd long enough
Two - We had our sequence of events out of wack. When she wakes up, change the diaper FIRST, then breastfeed.
Three - the GOLDEN CHALICE....the pacifier! There are different takes on when to introduce the pacifier. Basically the mother wants to establish breastfeeding before introduction. Since Syd latched on 10 minutes after birth, we were o.k.
Today's Syd's first backpacking trip (well, sort of...). Off to a breastfeeding class and signing birth certificate. Ahh the gear! The Moses basket kicks butt!
I made sure that both Dr. Kados and Mr. Trango were able to sniff Sydney at the door. I looked at it from the perspective that our home was their layer. Allowing them to accept and invite Sydney in at the door would hopefully speed up the process of acceptance. So far so good!
Nita-
I did quit chewing with the intention of having a child. But bottom line is the only way you are successful is to quit for yourself.
No Barack for the name....though I have family still in Arlington and Charlottesville that are voting for him today.
Thank you all again for your kind words and support! I intend on saving this thread in PDF...(have to figure out how to do that...LEB?) so that when Sydney is older, she will be able to see how the climbing community is supposed to be! Respectful and supportive of one another....with a little room for Joshin now and again!

Okay, so you've got the first part down. Now, here's what you need to get yourselves through the next three or four years. It's pretty simple -- all you need are two things:
1: Really big washer/drier. You are not going to believe how much laundry that little twerp generates.
2: Ten-inch nail. Don't laugh, this is serious baby beta from someone who's been there more than once. Sometime between now and when your little one learns to crawl, you better pound a ten-inch nail into the wall about four feet above the toilet, and move the TP from its present roller up onto the nail. You'll still be able to reach it there, but she won't. This will save you vast amounts of money on your TP bill. Of course it will rob you of the joy of going to check why the toilet is flushing and finding the punk holding the handle down while she watches the TP unspooling madly from the roll and disappear down the toilet. (Word. It happened.)
D
Reality edit: A third thing you may need is the ability to go for long periods with just a couple of hours sleep per night.
