Hard to tell from Hutch's photos, but this new zone we scoped on Sunday is pretty exciting. He sure does know how to make it look cold out there though.

earlier in the day and a thousand or so feet lower in elevation:

What do y'all think about the first week in June? The 1st is a Sunday, so I could get things settled in on the 30th or 31st(of May) and take the next week off. So I could be there from May 30 to June 8...it also gives people a choice of two weekends if their time frame is more limited...kinda in the bugalooo vein...

The guitar show Blinny mentioned is June 27 to 29, which is the only June conflict I know of...I have a pretty open schedule though...

What about right after the 15th or so, I'd have to play hookey as a student but I'd be off as a teacher.

Just fine with me. What dates do you have in mind Jay?

Start it up around the 16th or more around 20th?

I'm wide open out here...

I can usually get from SLC to Dillon in 5 hours.

Last time I climbed in the Humbugs was when I ran into you, Tom, and we got rained off our route. Grudge match!

Be fun to slog up another classic coulior in the area too, depending on June snowpack. Or, try something "alpine"...

Might be fun. Count me in as a maybe.

Cheers,

Salt Lake City to Butte via I-15 is 420 miles. I have driven this in just under 5 hours, because I was in a rush to get the kids out of the car.

Once you hit the Montana border, 75-85 mph is only a $20.00 citation, no report or record. Drive 79 mph all day and not get looked at by LE.

Used to be only 5 bucks, didn't know it went up. And, "resonable and prudent". Watch the frost heaves if you have a low clearance car and are going, uhhmmm, really fast. It is neat watchin' the sparks fly at night.

Also, watch your speed at night. That 20 bucks probably only applys on a dry, clear day.

The places to watch from SLC to Dillon are just south of Poke-a-feller and the turd by Dubois, who'll cite you for going 3 mph over some days.

Safeway in Dillon for good beer. And Peets French roast.

The $20.00 fine is for both day AND night. It is essentially a low-penalty ticket because of passing situations. The legislature did not feel it was fair to issue full-on speeding violations for circumstances that occur often on the Freeways (and US Highways).

As Brian mentioned, road conditions vary, heads-up driving when trying to make time.

"The Freeway", just off I-90 and Montana Street (Butte) offers a Wop Chop Special for $4.25--A deep-fried pork chop sandwich with trimmings and jo-jo or fries. Yummy AND healthy, hehe.

edit: On snow/icy roads the fine may not apply but NOBODY goes that fast then.

My teaching ends 6/11. The classes I attend start that week (one week night, class is the other is online, I think))I'm planning to play hooky one week, I'd rather go (to school) the first meeting, so, about anytime after the 12th, works for me! I'll probably be able to drag Mike F along from SLC.
