-and there's only one "f" in fuçked––and it seems a lot of folks got exactly that.

I'm curious what costs are involved in hosting a site that gets 50,000 raw hits a day,
assuming that was an accurate figure. All those purty pictures gotta use up some bandwidth!

I am a professional working Database Administrator (in Oracle). I offered Tim my services in whatever SQL, coding, structural, whatever he'd like me to work on. Repeatedly. In response he was rude and dismissive. I wish them luck, but after that, I'll be no more than a user.

So what's the deal there? Like I said before SNAFU - same as it ever was.

I never gave them a penny.

The strange thing about that site is that just about anyone can "get over". You have novice climbers telling other novice climbers what to do and how to do things. You have wanna-writers who can't get published in the mags, you have people writing trip report about a visit to the gym and so forth. It serves a purpose...to some people.

I spend most of time on the site in community giving the neo-cons sh#t. It's good for laugh.

LOL!

I've been telling people for years that if you want to talk politics with climbers,
there's a vastly larger audience (or at least there was) at the site that boasts
50,000 hits a day. Of course over there, it's not nearly so slanted to the left...

Good luck. I managed a tarpit in my first 72 hours but that was the best I could do.

Better bring more to the table than tales of analingus and incest.

One thing rockclimbing.com never fails to provide is excellent soap-opera style comedy.

It's actually turning into a nice dichotomy: Rc.com is the newbie forum for tweens and posers while SuperTaco is the old folks home for has-beens, never-weres, and wannabes. Neither is any better than the other but the residents sure love puffing their chests.

Well I got through for long enough today to see that Little Rammer Boy is branching out. He has a really unfunny troll attempt on the front page.
There goes one of RC.coms few redeeming values - No Rimjob.

This is an example of what a real climbing website can be, quick to load, intimate, open to all and rich in content.

Just because there is a seething hatred of sport climbing here Jay, is no reason to get huffy.

Ski-babealicious: "The trend of the website is, indeed, towards those new to climbing. That's great, focus on that market. But don't pretend to be anything other than that. Just be fully prepared to take it in the shorts when one n00b gives another n00b erroneous information resulting in a tragedy."

...which pretty much sums up why I bailed on RC.com. Ski, I might have written you an email at the time explaining why I was leaving. There may have even been a little lecture included in there. If so, sorry. But that sh#t was not, and continues not to be, good.
I'm kind of glad to see I wasn't imagining things. Strangely enough, a lot of the folks whose opinions I respected on RC have abandoned that clown act and have now showed up here as well.

As a side note, I ain't no Stonemaster, but I'm old enough to have the black and white issues of R&I and some Chouinard scottish crampon straps. Since I've been doing this for a while it was really painful to watch some of the things RC.com was doing to our "sport" (way of life). IMHO, Supertopo is what RC.com should have been but wasn't. The Stonemaster and Mussy threads here alone are priceless, and will someday be museum material. No offense to you old f#ckers. Wish I had been there. Looking forward to reading more.

internet forums inherently suck, all of them, thats just the way it is.

but all of these places do manage to attract a certain amount of super cool poeple, ultimatly i believe what you get out of it can be much greater that what you put in, as long as managed correctly.

it just so happens that its especially easy to get hours of horrifying bad advice and days worth of useless political blather.
