You're gonna love that S-Tec! I had a TBM/Socata Tobago with one - sure took a lot
of the work out of nightime, or anytime, IFR. Or VFR for that matter - leaves
you both hands free to mix the martinis!

If you want stirred, Philo, ya just do a barrel roll or two, although one is
advised to disconnect the autopilot first.

Congrats. I dig the rainbow paint job! Looks sweet.
Can we see a pic of the panel? Any plans for sinking more $ into her, or are you set up just fine as-is?
I was lucky and got some time in a Cessna T210, like your Piper a real beast for hauling loads. The darling of drug cartels up and down the spine of the Americas b/c it's cheap (relatively) and can haul weight like an ox. That plane had had no fewer than three gear-up landings before I got to fly it... complex ac will bite you, one way or another. Three years back it was sold... to a buyer in Florida, representing a Colombian client.
It's a tough call between low- and high-wing. I think for looks and for wind at the ap, the low-wings have it. But for visibility and landing on non-paved strips, high-wing can't be beat.
If one day I can share ownership of a beater 182 with reliable friends, that can get me up and down CA at less than 12 gph, I'll be psyched. Pipe dream for now.
Congrats again, Brokedown! And let's see the panel!

I don't have a photo of the panel in my computer, and the airplane is still in California. It's pretty much all King avionics; 2 KX155 Nav-coms, one with localizer and the other with glide slope. King KN76A mode C Transponder, King DME, and ADF. I plan to upgrade to a King KLN 94 moving map GPS by removing the Loran. Also has standby second vac pump. Upholstery is sort of a rust brown shade and is in good but original condition. Another upgrade I'm planning is a GEM (Graphic Engine Monitor).

and let's see the panel!
This was the request, and here it is, along with another shot with the airplane pulled out a bit more.

Sweet aircraft! I had the pleasure of being an Explorer Scout in Lock Haven, sponsored by Piper. Got to fly quite a few different models. Given a choice I'd probably go with a Cherokee, or if I won the lottery a twin Cheyene. Have fun!

Evel--
The Dakota is an evolutionary version of the Cherokee 235; all that changed was a fuselage stretch job of 5" and a tapered wing instead of the old Hershey bar style. Slightly faster and glides better due to a higher aspect ratio wing and slightly longer wingspan, too.
Scuffy-
I'll be landing in Burley, ID., an hour drive from the City.

I guess that is one place where you always have burly landing.

Chaz-
Bwahahahaha! I need to save several 1 liter Mountain Dew bottles. That stuff goes right through you, cause it doesn't even have to slow down to change color. For some reason pilots all use Mountain Dew bottles as "relief tubes."

Garbage in, garbage out, Brokedown. Think it means anything that climbers use wide-mouth Nalgenes?
That is a beautiful looking rainbow ride!

As I stated earlier--the number one cause of off-the-airport landings is engine stoppage. Contributory cause: fuel starvation.
Dont. Run. Out. Of. Gas!
Interesting side note: This bird costs me less to insure than my pickup!
Gilroy: I DON'T drink Mountain Dew; I just collect the bottles.

I asked the broker who sold me the airplane to get me a picture of the interior. Not very good, but it shows the brownish-tan velour pretty well. No real wear or tears--just "dated."
Paint and interior are all rated on a 1-10 scale, and this has an 8.5 rating on the paint, but only an 7.5 for interior.
If you're in Joshua Tree, Saint Patrick's Day, and you see a rainbow striped Piper overhead, wave! I'm flying it back to Wyoming then.

Broke, since you posted today on the Josh ethics thread are we to assume you
made it home with your new honey? Was the S-Tec sweetness personified?

Reilly-
Not yet; I'm flying out to San Diego this Thursday (15th) and flying it home on St. Paddy's Day. I had to wait for a new portable oxygen system to be delivered and completion of a pitot-static inspection, transponder recertification, etc.
