I have been the sub-man for 7 climbers;...you can change the Gordon/Sartin.....to Sartin/Gordon;...which makes it 8 for me then;.....that Gordon/Sartin gig has been over for years;...I am now HIS sub-man........I won't argue with a single one;...they all ring the bell of truth and reality......

(one more you might want to add to the list.....Peplow/Walling.......as long as we are up-dating the list.....)...

Let me carry your beers for you, please....sir..

The only reference to submen I remember is General Shorty and His Army of Submen. Which was true. Kurt had a whole gaggle of buddies that followed each other around.

Kind of mean but everyone was subject to a horrific nickname.

Some of the army ended up being really good on their own, IIRC.

I have heard some well informed rumours on the other side of the ocean saying that there for a long time was one master and one master only setting the standard in Yosemite (the pre hang-dogging time). To what extent is the rumour true?

Say, Jim Clipper,
can you tell me the source of your Quixote/Sancho Panza illustration?

To be clear, I'm not trying to give you sh#t or accuse you of anything bad.
It's just that I can't remember where I have seen it, and that's messing
with my neurons.

Thanks.

I can remember many good years in the 80's where it seemed like my purpose in life was belaying Loomis at projects around Courtright, Trona and pretty much all over the Sierra. I could never climb for sh#t but I guess I was a good belayer. Probably makes me a sub-man, but hardly famous. Scott was always kind enough to drag me up some 5.8 routes in return. Trying to dig up some photos now.

Scott, would be great to re-connect with you if you're still hanging out here.
