"Apologizing is definitely off-topic for a thread drift topic"

In that case, I apologize.

A friend of mine sent me Yvon Chouinard's book, "let my people go surfing, the education of a reluctant businessman." Anyone else see it?

Not much climbing or adventure stuff. He sounds like most successful entrepreneurs who convince themselves that they are somehow doing business differently when in fact they just did it well enough to be successful.

I wonder what will happen to Patagonia when he and Melinda give it up.

What else is anyone doing on MLK day?

Yes....I had to go to sleep, and get up at 6:30am.....an ungodly hour, when it's work one's getting up for.

Anyway - I *did* expect the thread to focus on why we *wished* people didn't post off-topic on *serious* threads..... But, clearly, I am one of the biggest offenders.

I actually like to see the tangents interspersed amongst the more somber. It's entertaining. But I also don't like to piss people off, and I did notice when I got "told" by someone(I think it was Karl) when I drifeted on that one thread a while back(I can't remember which thread it was, but it was one in which I had absolutely no interest, except for the tangential possibilities.) i enjoy a dadaesque thread quality, and this one certainly has it!

But seriously, I thought maybe this thread could serve as a forum for politely discussing why we wished others would behave, or defending our right to misbehave. And those of us on either side of the fence might at least come to understand how our behavior was affecting others.

To drift, or not to drift? -- That is the question.
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the flames and vitriol for drifting on a normal thread
or to come here and continue with the topic of a prior post.

A gal I knew long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away (or so it seems), decided to give her goldfish a bath. She put it in a pan of water, and thought he'd like a warm bath. So she lit a burner and put the pan, with fish, on the stove to warm up.

Then the phone rang...

gave up on the patagucci about when he ranted about his many homes, why modern climbers suck, and why surfing's better now.

not that he wasn't a badazz in the day but there's been a whole lot of advances in climbing since he's been 'retired'.

Lot's of people surf and climb way harder these days...

You guys know him, rub any of you the wrong way? or did i totally miss his point?

Thread drift. Much faster than continental drift. Much shallower than snow drift. Get my drift?

I thought it was a great idea for a thread but it didn't go that way so I'm going with the flow. It might be worth another try somewhere else.

I think there are threads that should drift and threads that shouldn't. One's that require serious discussion, analysis, or have some other importance like tributes to a fallen climber should be treated with more respect than light-hearted threads. Just like real life.

There's drift and there's drift. Lois drives me crazy.

One nice thing about this thread is that it makes just as much sense whether you read it down from the top or up from the bottom.

Where IS Lois when you need her!!!??? And why is she, oddly, silent for this thread? Don't give me the "MLK Long Weekend BS!" I have a conspiracy rumour fire to tend to, dammit.

Well, maybe if she reads this thread, she woul dbe gracious enough to start one to broach the topic. I think hers would carry a lot more weight. Although it would be really funny if she did, and the response was exactly the same.

You don't need Lois, you need a good creative original imagination to exploit it and have a productive result.

Now get to work and quit phucking wasting your time just babbling!

I believe it is spelled Gondwanaland.

If there are any people from Gondwanaland visiting this site maybe they can tell us.

Now, would they be Gondwanalanders or Gondwanish?
