Tyleonl III (Rx only) has Codeine as well as Acetaminophen. OTC Tylenol has just the latter ingredient.
I'd say that LSD is right up there on the list in certain situations. I know a guy who went winter mountaineering a lot in the Presidentials in NH. He took 1 hit during a trip to Mt Jefferson. Halfway from treeline to the summit he set his gloves down on the snow to pack a bowl. Oh yeah, winds were about 20MPH gusting to 30 or 40. Another kid on the trip told me that on the trail, he forgot which way was up. Weird.

Alpine410,
Yes, infact PT is the reason my disc ruptured in the first place. Felt pain while cutting a roof at a fire, went to the Dr. Rx for PT. While at PT on one of the back machines felt a pop and severe pain. Long story short. It was a work comp injury. They dont like to spend money. Took 2 months to get MRI another for surgery. In the meantime sciatic nerve was destroyed, still have no feeling in my left foot from mid leg down and this is 2 years later. I am back to work now with no restrictions. I do all the PT exercises on my own and get a massage and adjustment twice a week. The only time I am not in some form of pain is when I am asleep. It is not excrutiating but it is kind of like a constant bad toothache. It sucks. Actualy hiking and climbing is when my back feels the best. Climbing feels good because of the constant stretching and movement.

Batrock,
Damn, I'm sorry man. Sounds like your physical therapist f'ed up.
I use cold packs religiously, they work pretty well. Heating pads can be nice too. Thats all I do, plus exercises to strengthen core muscles, abs and back. It works for me, but if some MD went digging in your back there's no telling whats going on.

Lois,
I have maybe a beer a month and never with the Vicodin. 38 y/o.
I have taken Tylenol with very little pain relief. I tend to think it is the opiate that is giving me the relief. I am hoping that the better shape I get in and drop a few pounds i can reduce the amount taken. I am going to make an appointment to get my blood work done soon. I am too young for this crap. I used to kayak several days a year, ski 75 days a year and climb a ton. Have not climbed but one day in over two years and not skied or kayaked at all. It sucks.

Lois,
What are some early signs of liver problems? I would assume yellow sclera and such would be late signs.

I wish my department had shot crews. I get all my exercise at work climbing the stairs in highrises.

The worst drugs I think is either meth or heroin, had some friends lost to em..they're pretty bad.
that being said it seems like alcohol is worse for the body than nicotine, what causes all those smoking deaths is not the drug (nicotine) itself, but rather the way it is taken. Personally I try to stick to hallucinogens and beer..

Thanks for all the good info Lois
Society really suffers from ETOH and Tobacco because of mass use. The effects of Meth, crack and cocaine on the individuals are often devastating.
I used to have employees explaining conspiracy theories about how folks were breaking into their rooms and stealing one sock out of a pair of socks. Another guy went off about the rangers probing his brain using the power lines outside his cabin.
Hope he was wrong. Pretty sure he was. ;-)

Lois,
Thanks for your input. I will bring this up with my MD. I am hoping that with good exercise and weight loss along with stretching things will get better. I just want to stop relying on the Vicodin all together.
Thanks again,
Kevin

I was slipped Acid. I thought I was having a stroke and went to the ER. If I had known what was happening it would have been fantastic!
Ugh, that happened to a good friend of mine in college. Some jackass brought a bunch of Jell-o shots laced with LSD to a party; I think I saw 8 or 10 people in the emergency room later that night from the party.

Lois, was that before you joined our little family?
Good Diagnosis, exactly.
I had to hike out 3 miles with that.
Went right to the ER.
It still hurts 1 year later.

Please post only fresh material. An ankle is only good for a couple of weeks. A hemorrhoid will get you maybe 6 months of attention.

zardoz - "Addict" has a negative conotation. I don't think anyone is hissing "addict" behind the back of the little old lady who has developed a dependancy. Now, if she starts knocking over other little old ladies and making off with their purses, just to get at their meds stash.....
But back to the "bad" addicts. I remember hearing a guy talking once at a 12 Step meeting. He was several years clean off heroin, and on track with a life that was polar opposite the what he lived in while actively addicted. Stealing had been nothing for the guy; he'd prostituted himself, found himself waking up amongst dead from everdose friends, manipulated friends, family, lovers and strangers. Really depraved existence.
He said something like "A lot of people have that "pull yourself up and just stop" attitude about addiction. But, do they ever stop to consider this? Who in their right mind would CHOOSE to live this way? If I could have chosen not to do the things I was doing, the choice would have been cake. I had no choice, when you think of what that entails. Choice never entered my mind. My mind was filled with one idea, and one idea only - the fix. There was no room left for anything else to get in my mind."
Addiction is vicious.

Rush Limbaugh should go to f*#king jail.
My wife suffers cronic pain and as#@&%es like him make it hard for people with real pain to get help.
I hate that sack of sh#t.
I know some people get addicted because they have been abused in their lives by others.
But if anyone needs to do some time it is Limbaugh.

A little thread drift here.
I got busted with weed while I was climbing down in the Ozarks of southern Missouri a couple three years ago. I was on lead when the Rangers and the Sherrif walked up and saw the goods on the ground.
Anyway they wrote me a ticket and the court I had to go to was not to far from Rush Limbugh's home town.
So I hired his law firm to get me out of it.
Lawyers and the justice department, kinda like dealing with the maffia.

"Personally I try to stick to hallucinogens and beer.."
Reminds me of something somebody else once said.
"I'm still jacked, after that (a long solo climb that concluded a day or so before) right now I just want to get up in the morning and see what everything looks like. Couple a days, though, it'll be back to the grind, 'cid & beer."
