I've drank my fair share of pints at Crossroads.
And Ksolem has got it right: its all about the seared Ahi tuna.
Bonnie has always been sweet to me. So, no complaints here. I really enjoyed the environment there. I will miss chatting with her on a regular basis...
The restaurant business is hard sh#t. Whether or not Crossroads was open 7 days a week, the work never ends....even on the "closed" days. Bonnie isn't the only person I know who owns a business, and she's not the only one I know who runs a restaurant. Its a lot of f*#king work.
Hopefully now Bonnie will have some time to just breathe and enjoy life. I'm hoping I'll see her out at the crags.

Any Bay area climbers ever eat at St Francis' Fountain? That's the place of the folks coming in. The menu looks good (and vast) but how's the quality of the food? Any takers?

Always love to see you here dogtown. Much love to you and yours.
Yeah, I loved the place too. It will just be a different place now but Bonnie said she was VERY selective on who she sold it to so it shouldn't be too different.
Just with french fries.

Internet haters, you've got some serious time on your hands!
I washed dishes at Crossroads for 3-4 months, it was a pretty good gig, and I met some great people.
Usually when I'm dirt bagging it I don't quite eat that great, but that wasn't the case the winter I lived in J-Tree and worked at Crossroads I was always given healthy leftovers and fed well.
Glad that Bonnie will be able to climb some more, and I hope the new owners keep it alive, I always thought that Crossroads had the best beer, coffee, and food in town.
I actually wrote a little blog about some of my J-Tree/Crossroads experiences recently if anyone wants to read it, here's a link:

It seemed that Crossroads was just a place that one had to stop when going to Josh. The atmosphere was just so fitting. It's nice to hear that Bonnie and Stacy, who I never got to know (they were always working hard!), are getting out when the getting is good, and they have not gotten totally burned out. Seems like they had a good run, about as good as it gets. I hope they get a chance to enjoy life for awhile.
Don't quite understand people taking the opportunity to make negative comments, I guess last opportunity to put a frown on someone's face, doesn't seem like good karma, but whatever.

too bad for us, but good for Bonnie. Glad she is happy and able to retire.
Place is really too small, need to relocate to a bigger storefront with more seating. Hopefully the new people will respect the pricepoint.
Biggest problem with food in JT these days is everyone wants to exploit the one-time tourist visitors with $9 bowls of bad soup or a $8 piece of quiche smaller than your palm. Then they will wonder why they can't sell enough to keep the doors open.

Always worked for me, best of luck to those at Crossroads and the future owners.

It's really easy for people who visit here to condemn those who live here full time. I could care less about your buying a house here where you visit. Until you live here, full time, for a large number of years, you have no clue as to what you are talking about.
This is a tough, small town to make a living in. Period.
Of all the different types of business you could start in "down town" Josh, a restaurant is probably the most difficult.
Bonnie get's big hugs in my book.
I defy anyone on this site claiming she's done them wrong to do a better job than her.
By the way, I am not a close friend of Bonnie's by any measure of the yard stick. But I fully support her.

Running a successful restaurant is no easy task and definitely takes a toll. Through it all Bonnie and Stacee have been gracious hosts, as well as genuine and warm people. I know that Bonnie is looking forward to having more (and well deserved) time to just enjoy life.

EVER EAT AT ST. FRANCIS? I grew up and still live two blocks south of St Francis and if the food is anything like it is at the "new" St. Francis then say goodbye to quality food. I hate to say it but those two guys ruined what use to be a nice quiet ice cream/milkshake neighborhood spot and turned it into some blown up hipster hang where you cant even get a seat on a Sun morning for some crappy eggs with dry potatoes, just like any other hipster hang here in SF thats popped up in the last decade. Oh and did I mention its super overpriced. What a shame.

Thanks Lucho. You answered a question I've been asking.
Doesn't sound like it bodes well for the "new" Crossroads.

What a bummer. I grew up in the Coachella Valley and when I started climbing Joshua Tree became pretty much so my back yard. I visited Crossroads before Stacy and Bonnie (sorry for any misspellings) owned it and certainly many times while they did. Good food and good people. Bottom line.
I met Stacy through my job in Palm Springs and I remember talking to her at one point when I was thinking of buying the business from my boss, this couldn't have been more than a year into her ownership of Crossroads and even then upon hearing that I was thinking of buying this business her eyes went kindof buggy and she provided many caveats. Owning (and running at the same time) your own business is an incredible amount of work. A restaraunt that does the kind of volume in the space provided that Crossroads does for half the year? Forget about it. Kudos to both of those women for pulling it off and giving so many of us a fine venue for chill time be it before climbing, after climbing, or when we should have been climbing. I wish them both the best wherever life takes them.
And as far as being rude or not being rude or whatever.. .. .. I've worked in the service industry, retail mostly, for the majority of my life and all I can say is that we are all human, both customer and employee (or owner, anyone dealing with the public) alike. Moods happen. Sh#t happens. And sometimes that happens when you have a line going out the door. Sometimes customers will bitch. And sometimes the employees or owner will bitch right back. I kindof prefer it that way. Keeps it more real. Sometimes too, employees or owners can just have a bad day, and that line out the door and the constant barage of NONSTOP shite going on takes its toll and patience gets short and words or attitude are the reflection of that. It happens, even if we didn't want it t
I can honestly say that I never experienced anything but the most friendly and warm service. But then , I was there a lot. After talking to Bonnie a few times I can see that she's probbly not not one to take much gruff. She seems to have an edge to her and I like it.
So, I'm bummed. Another multi year tradition is coming to an end, and just a week or so before my next visit.
I wish the new owners luck. They have a pretty crazy (buyt fun potentially) niche to fill. Have they spent any time in the town? Do they know what they're getting into?
