I know someone that works the Tioga entrance station, and they left to move to the park this weekend... Opening date next weekend then?

Lookin' Friday the 4th, b4 the weekend...

My friends are bummed that the cycling season was so short this year. One of their favorite parts of livin' close by.

So, does anyone know if this means that you still can't get past the power station gate from the east side? I'm hiking Dana this weekend, and hoping the road opens Friday. But if not - is the only option to park at the east gate, and hike in the whole way?

I'm not certain what the power station gate is, but this seems to mean that it is open up to the entrance to the park. At least that is how I read it, but I don't live on the east side and so don't know for certain. Hopefully someone can chime in.

When I did Dana couloir with Tioga road closed (last spring), I parked in the parking lot for Power Plant. Hiked up the LV canyon (same hike as if you are going ice climbing, but you just keep going and angle right and up to the road. I would say it is not worth it with the road closed, unless you like long day-hikes.

Is that 800.427.7623 the best contact to keep up on the road status for HWY 120? Or is there a Ranger office I can contact for more up to date information? Heading out this coming Monday the 7th, and would love to save 4 hours of driving and 3/4's of a tank of gas.
