La Jolla, San Diego - A day of seacliff climbing and swimming winds down on the clifftop, grillin and chillin as the sun sets over the pacific. It doesnt get any better than that.

epi with his fan club at La Jollaclimbing on the cliffs at La Jolla was super fun. Sadly, the cliffs are now completely buried under tons of sand.

Galen at ease on the front porch of his residence, in the Lodge lot, summer of 1977. Its a pity you can't live in your van in that lot for two months anymore.

Definitely would be hard to pull of in a beetle; but then again so would a good night's sleep. Does the ditch by the propane tank in Tuolumne Meadows still provide ranger protection?

In that beetle the passenger seat was replaced by a wooden locker, and Galen isn't the tallest individual, so it actually slept pretty well for him. As far as profile, the rangers just didn't pay any attention, there were at least a dozen occupied vehicles in that lot all summer, it was like an auxiliary free campground. Here's the inside of my home from that summer, shot while sitting in the same lot right next to Galen's bug:

nothing very subtle about a multicolored VW bus. BVB (on the right) and I are both over 6', so a Beetle wouldn't have cut it,

Off White:

Great photo of Galen and the VW!
Kind of like Proto Man in his natural habitat.

Plus, in your last shot, I'm going to suggest you were freshly extracted from the Northwest, given that Chouinard Fantasia is still hanging up to dry!

Tarbuster,

In the third photo on the very first post on page 2 of this thread (message 21) I'm almost positive that's Wendell Broussard in the red jacket. I believe that's Richard Harrison that he's standing directly behind.

Can you confirm whether or not that is indeed Wendell.

Sorry if everyone in that photo has already been identified somewhere in this thread, I haven't read every post.

That Van photo was from summer of '77, Roy. Off left for Olympia in '78, me in '79, Galen in 1980 or '81 I think. The great migration. 5 different species of psyloshrooms grew right on the Evergreen campus...Ho Man.

Yes, Beebs ... Twilly took Paulsy and I on the Evergreen campus soccer field tour.
We filled up the hat with mushrooms (a swarm of professors looked askance, grinning in our direction) then we went and climbed the Sunny Muffin Tree.

The parking lot of our minds began to sway from way up there.

Red Rocker: yes that is Wendell!
And thank you for his last name. Also Richard Harrison.

Wendell was/is a really gentle man and very keen climber.
The photograph is from early 1980s.
