Guido! Internal combustion perfection! I can hear it singin'!
Notwithstanding Mozart and Bach nothing beats hearing 6 P-51's coming to
the starting line at the Reno Air Races at 75 inches of boost!

Merlins are the romance.

Detroit Diesel V-71s are the reality.

Thousands of them propelled our ships reliably. Most of those are still running, unless the ship sank.

The one on my boat in the picture has been running for 45 years without needing an overhaul and it just brought me 1000 miles down the west coast last week without a hick-up.

And speaking of romance, if you check into the facts; the less well known Corsair pretty well out-flew the Mustang. We were just having a big discussion about that on a fliers' thread.

Well, the Corsair was a later design and largely irrelevant to the war's outcome.
That the Corsair served admirably in Korea is testament to its design although
by then it had undergone many changes. I'd take either one!

Pate, looks like ya showed up for Burning Man a week late!

Philo, nice job of staging! It does look convincing though I do detect some smirking methinks.

Seen on I-5 near Weed; like where else?

Yes, it is a gift-wrapped Mig-21 (NATO call sign - Fishbed - I think Russ needs one)!

ps
They are readily available for under $100K and parts are no prob!
They are a little pricey to maintain and you have to de-activate the ejection seat!

Looks like the locals suffer from Montezuma's revenge also.
