Good point, Mike...and thanks for adding to the list.

I knew I was missing dozens of other steller attributes, but the guy is amazingly humble, and he's probably gonna turn 10 shades of red when he reads this thing anyway...and might not even respond to it unless JimE puts an arm-bar on him or something...

...hint, hint...Jim...

Wow L great tribute! I concur completely. There is another great shot of Larry and his cutie pie hanging out at their old Eldo home. It is on the Naked Edge thread.

Classiest poster on the Taco in MHO. I've never met him, but as a fellow Northeasterner, I'm sure our paths will cross at some point. I look forward to it.
Cheers to Chiloe.

Thanks for the thread L.

Chiloe is a class act! He always finds something positive and upbeat to say. The northeastern TR threads are my favorites!

How does one display appreciation for his climbing and professional mentor of the past 13 or so years (not to mention that Larry and Leslie are our gold standard for parenting and relationships...oh yeah, and I've heard he's contributed a thing or two to climbing, more generally)? I'm not sure I can, but I'm gonna spend a few posts trying...

someone I look forward to meeting and climbing with in the future, he would seem a great partner and just an all around good person to know. My appreciation endures beyond the possibility of any future vertical endeavors however...

His posts are on my must read list of contributors here. They are always worth the time, to which I am greatly appreciative.

i'm with le_bruce

the first time i checked out this venue was simply because Chiloe and MH2 made occassional and veiled references to it back on the .wreck. i found it then (and now) a rather cwazy and at times scary place -- but i'd swim around looking for Chiloe threads and read those. and i always really dug the results. still do. it took me a bit longer to figure out that MH2 was MH2 -- but once i did, i searched for her threads too.

the first time i ever wrote directly to Chiloe, i called him "Chloe" and assumed he was of the opposing gender. oopsy (dyslexics untie! ... dhope!) ah, but he just laughed it off and responded to my question with great humor and genuinely useful first hand big kid beta.

what a righteous and outstanding lady he is.
~~~
when i finally saw a picture of him (here -- no photos back on the old .wreck) it was like 'oh jeeze, i've seen that guy! -- hell, i'd tripped over him a bunch of times in north conway and environs. when i later figured out some of his other monikers, i realized that she was also the guy behind many of those tales i'd heard of impossible big kid tricks in eldo, years before my boulder daze.
~~~

Chloe is surely the jazz!

and perhaps one of these days i'll actually get her gender right...

you go girl! i really dig your wit and insights.

I've not had the pleasure of meeting the man, or have I? Either way, if you are ever in the Seattle area, come to Angelo's and I'll hook you up with some good grub,and the beer/wine is on me. Live upfull.

As someone who visits here to talk and hear about climbing (meaning I don't look at many of the threads), Chiloe is one of the authors I always turn to with confidence and anticipation. A well-deserved tribute!

I second all that's been said, and more.
He's been very well regarded for ages now,
truly generous and kind in his interactions with
people he's never met, exceedingly entertaining.

I'd be pretty damn proud to call him my friend.

Where he was yesterday, unaware of this thread. And who he was with ...

(you might have to look closely).

Thanks, L, for kicking off this unexpected fest in such warm and high style.
There’s no one I’d be more happy to get honored by.

And thanks to everyone else who added their cheers. I could say a lot more in
response ... tell a story about 18-year-old Jim E and our first climb together, or
drop hints about Cowpoke’s hilarious Batman and Robin letters, or call out Hey
Ed, I just heard this brilliantly heterodox talk in a geophysics class .... and much
else, overstaying my five minutes.

But right now I’m off to see the man with the cowboy hat, about a canyon.

Cheers to all!

I first met Larry when he was slumming in a third-rate climbing area in Boston. Ha! Outed ya Larry!

Somehow I got up the nerve to ask for his contact info, and he was gracious enough to volunteer it.

We had some great adventures in NH, and he later introduced me to Red Rocks. It felt like a fantastic privilege to get ushered around by this RR luminary, and introduced to many of the other heroes of the scene! I remember he gave a slideshow one night in Vegas, and in the audience, someone looked at me in reverence, saying "Wow, you know that guy!?"

But even more of a privilege was being able to do some of the last climbs with him before he became bionic. He knew the outcome of the surgery would be uncertain, and he was squeezing all the joy he could from the last few climbs, knowing he might never climb again. Larry was in a lot of pain, but you'd never know it from the perpetual smile on his face from the joy he had in the experience.

So, Larry, thanks for setting aside your usual superb taste in finding classic climbing lines and top-notch climbing partners. I'm grateful you picked up this third-rate climber from some slummy little crag in Boston.

Larry, my hat's off to you today. I'm damn happy and proud to have you as a friend and partner.

Cheers!

Fiiiiiiiiiinally! Sheeesh...thought I was gonna have to send JimE and Cowpoke round to strong-arm you into the party. ;-)

Great pix of you and Mrs. Chiloe (heh-heh-heh)...don't know where the 'el it is exactly since nothing exists for me outside of CA, but it's gorgeous. Wish a ticket to Boulder didn't rival the national debt--would love to meet you and Leslie. Crimpie will have to stand in for moi.

You do realize, don't you, that we will be expecting stories of the exploites of you and JimE at 18, and Comedy by Cowpoke Tales, right?

Please don't tease us. Your fans deserve better!

Happy trails in the Canyon with that good guy in the big hat...
