Some friends of mine air dropped some gear and food in the Arrigetch for a trip in the mid sixties. They then walked in quite a long distance and never located the air dropped gear. They got some climbing done but I think there was quite a bit of belt-tightening involved due to not having the food that was in the drop.
There should be an American Alpine Journal article (maybe 1965 or 66) on that trip but I don't have the volumes to research it.

Great trip report! Maybe the best ever. I've been up to the Arrigetch two times and can't wait to get back again. Thanks for the killer photos and story.

i'm surprised anyone bothered to go there back in black and white. aren't we glad you waited till color?
seems like there was a picture in an early (chouinard catalog?, sierra club pub!) picture somewhere that had me inspired about those peaks.
i didn't have access to much the first year of the pipeline, but i knew i wanted to go there.
stopped in at the sandvik house back then but the idea wasn't well recieved amongst those alpinists. they sent me out to the tors.
one trip out there and i headed back to yosemite.
i've been spreading a rumor about alaska as if it were true. after wrestling heavy loads across muskeg, grizzly willow thickets, alder matrix and on and on. tell me if you think this might have some merit. that comment about wondering if the peaks had gotten farther away for all your effort makes me think you'll understand.
alaska is like you never really arrive there. where ever you get to, you've just reached this smidgeon and IT is out there further still. if you happen to be off by one drainage you'll end up settling because the overland logistics are overwhelming. this assures me i'm not made of sourdough stock.
i'll say this. to your youthful, exuberant, everlovin' credit, it appears that you definitely got there!
