The river helped give it away.

Yep, Jody, we all have our secret haunts, don't we now. When, where, and with whom to share the beta is always the question... (so are you gonna respond to my email?)

I don't have any of my own pictures scanned, let alone on the web. I've tried briefly with some other images which are on the web, but I still can't seem to figure it out (and probably lack the patience at present). I'm also on a Mac, which may make your directions obsolete.

Meanwhile, got any more dome pics?

This one's probably too easy (so don't cheat). However, this is not the typical vantage. (not my picture)

Looks like something in the Kings canyon area. Probably that Tephite dome, can't remember exactly I likely spelled it wrong? How the heck do you cheat? Must be some computer guy trick.

Tehipite indeed.

Here's the more common view from the valley below. One huge chunk of granite.

And here's another dome that shouldn't be too difficult (again, not my photo):

Some day Dingus. I'd like to try the bigger west face from the river bottom.

OK, one more (or two, rather) you should know:

Hey Jody, you know I am just messing with ya… Where else can I tell a COP to shut up and get away with it? :) Oh, how I like to laugh…

Your photo of the domes at Courtright is awesome – black and white makes it look super cool. Not to float your boat or anything… just think you’ve got some cool pics. And btw, have you ever arrested anyone with those boxing gloves?

This is a cool thread. Nate, what kind of parameters does a dome have to fit into to be included in your list? Like... there are a zillion unnamed "domes" in the Sierra - how big does the molehill have to be?

Whats the difference between a dome and a spire. Is a spire such as the Lost Arrow just skinny dome? what gives?

Here are four dome heads… (And I thought I knew how to chisel!)

I hear that George W. was pissed that Congress shut down his plan to be the fifth prez on Mt. Crushmorerock so he has decided to hire a bunch of (people) to chisel Tehipite into a giant ballistic missile. John Wayne later argued that a bullet would be a better idea and would represent the “real” old west. Details later…

Alas, now you see what I'm up against, and sorta why I started this thread.

Guess I could always stick to just the named ones, but there's some fine and rather large bulges out there I would exclude. Do I include only the photogenic ones -- which gets quite subjective? I'm not sure.

I personally wouldn't include Lost Arrow, but the Obelisk, which is a somewhat spire-like dome, I'd probably include.

Heres a famous Ca. spire.

That's interesting Minerals. Is a spire essentially a fragment or shard of an "exploded" dome? Or not always. And tell me, with all due respect, that those 4 dudes will eventually explode.

It certainly would be easier to catalog all the spires rather than domes. (No idea what that spire is, funkness.)

Hmmm, maybe my criteria for inclusion could be domes that haven't yet fully exploded. Will you be my consultant Minerals?

Any guess on the last image I posted? The meadow should give it away.

Like this funkness...

Your image was huuuuuuuuge so I resized it and put it on my server so i could post it here. I also dressed it up a bit with ACDSee. It is 600x400 and only 79k in size...I have found that for the internet those are about the right parameters.

On photo.net when you post a pic, the thumbnail is small, represented by "sm" at the end of the url. There is also "md" and "lg" obtained by clicking on the thumbnail. When you submit photos to photo.net...make them about500-600 pixels wide on the horizontal shots and about 500-600 high on the vertical shots. That way, the larger versions won't be distorted and blurry. For your shot that I enlarged, I just got the url and plugged in md instead of sm. Here are the three versions of one photo I have on photo.net...I just copied the url once and then for each paste I just manually changed the sm...md...lg...

Nate...new e-mail address, I'll e-mail you directly.

Thanks Brian, every once in a while, I am looking at a scene and color just doesn't cut it so I throw some b&w at it. I don't do much b&w. That picture of Courtright is used by ASCA on their site for that area.

Boxing gloves? I don't need no stinkin' boxing gloves!

Seriously, in 15 years of doing this thankless task I have never been in a fight and I pray that I never will be.

Power Dome is huge...that picture really gives you a good perspective on how big it is...

Okay, for you "dome trivia" people, where is this one? This is a side view, I'll try to scrounge up a frontal view...

Here is the front view...the dome is about 900' high.
