Does anyone still think the war in Iraq was a success or that things are going well? If so, why? The situation seems so bleak.

Lois wrote: Correct me if I am wrong but was not 9/11 a major disaster and crisis? He handled that (extremely difficult) crisis quite well and to a large extent got the city through very difficult times.

Then maybe we should pick one of the the firemen, policemen and others as president. They risk their lives under that same crisis and got the city through in a extemely difficult time.

Rudy did what the people of NY paid him for on that day...his job!

Rudy did great in 9/11 (in a ceremonial sense)and has other good qualities. I still don't think he's ever gonna play in the West. McCain has a wider geographic appeal. Somehow, though, I think this next one is gonna be a darkhorse face off, I don't think any of these people will be on the ballot.

Speaking of "him in action" Rudy got some action on the side while he was married. I personally couldn't care less, but a lot of primary voters do care.

Mcain isn't liberal at all! There is nothing for there to be "not that liberal" about him. What he IS is reasonably spoken and interested in facts, and after 8 years of being told over and over again that bullshit is in fact brie I'd be happy to suffer four years of someone with whom I disagree on WHAT should be done, not on what REALITY is.

In this case liberal=left of Bush = conservative, a long way to go to get to middle of the road, even.

Has there really been a liberal Politico since, Adlai Stevenson? Besides Jerry B, who is pretty conservative himself in a lot of things.

McCain isn't a bad guy, though.
rudy's strength is that he didn't melt in a crisis and did inspire a poignant Samuel L line. I think we can do better.

How many people west of Ohio can distinguish a photo of Gulianni from Pataki? Or, East of that line (or so) tell Boxer from Pelosi?

Guliani's undoing will be the traditional venal tenor of NY politics.

What plays as the usual quid pro quo in NY won't play in the west. The MSM will help make sure of it.

His sex life will not figure into the equation, just a side show. It will be interpreted by those who wish to blame the religious right as the cause for his failure even though they aren't anywhere close to powerfull enough to make that happen.

The MSM can't even get tha facts sraight about a simple traffic accident let alone something as complex as a political parties inner workings. (particularly one that they aren't participants in)

Lois, Bob was just making a funny,
http://www.jonathanedwards.net/_pages/index.php listen to a clip and you will recognize him instantly, I think.

I thought the same thing when I saw that you'd written that, but my befuddled, dyslexic, brain was really thinking Jonathan Richman,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Richman

whom I would vote for in a second, for anything he felt he should run for.

Not sure about the other Edwards, he's got more going than the bumpersticker, but I need to learn more about where he actually stands. I remember there was something that bothered me about him.

What about Obama/Clinton?

My fave, Jonathan R lyric;

Pablo Picasso

Well some people try to pick up girls
And get called as#@&%es
This never happened to Pablo Picasso
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare and
So Pablo Picasso was never called an as#@&%e

Well the girls would turn the color
Of the avacado when he would drive
Down their street in his El Dorado
He could walk down you street
And girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso never got called an as#@&%e
Not like you
Alright

Well he was only 5'3"
But girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso never got called an as#@&%e
Not in New York

Oh well be not schmuck, be not abnoxious,
Be not bellbottom bummer or as#@&%e
Remember the story of Pablo Picasso
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare
Pablo Picasso was never called an as#@&%e
Alright this is it

Some people try to pick up girls
And they get called an as#@&%e
This never happened to Pablo Picasso
He could walk down your street
And girls could not resist his stare and so
Pablo Picasso was never called...

Follow the clips and listen to it for a better idea; bouncy yet cynical.

Lois- Hillary has ten times the political experience of John Edwards, and Obama has almost equal. In my opinion, Obama has the stuff. He can have Edwards, or Hillary as running mate, and would get my vote.

"Frankly, I think Clinton should have said "None of your f___g business" and left it at that."

Truer words have never been spoken.

I think I fixed the links, they work on my rig, anyway.

Good points on potential demo ticket, though I think we might be really jonsing that particular "Unmitigated Disaster," right about now. Hillary has all the experience any one could need (way more than our current master) and I think the idea that Barak is somehow green (I confess, I feel it too)is because he looks so young. Again, I need to do more research.

I'm not sure if you were still adressing me, Lois when you made the implication about the midwest not liking RG 'cause of infidel stuff. But I'll answer as if you were. That aspect had not occured to me, I vaguely remember those stories, but I don't think that sort of Intel is relevent to evaluate a candidate, native midwesterner that I am; we are indocterinated at a young age that other people's personnel lives are none of our business (probably why we like gossip so much).
I just think he's (Rudy Gull) too much of an eastern phenom (Remember that New Yorker cover with A N -yawker's US map?), to be acknowledged much in the midwest (again, I am a native of the Land of Lincoln™ I was born in Ingles hospital, Harvey Ill and stay somewhat in touch with friends and relatives there)let alone the west.

Hillary I doubt has any interest in being the VP candidate for anyone. She's an alpha dog, she's been setting herself up for the last decade for this run and if she doesn't win the nomination I think she will happily go back to the Senate and gear herself up for the next one.

Obama is definitely the only (theoretical) candidate that has me in any way excited about '08. If Obama runs I'd probably quit my job to campaign for him.

Assuming the polls are near to correct on Hillary, if the Dems want to win in 08, they better come up with someone else.

You're probably right, Woody. We need to forget Hillary. She's not much different than the Repub shills, anyway - totally politically calculating at all times - no real compass. But I'm with HD, Obama could do it, along with someone such as John Edwards.
